[MBZ] Fw: 124 evapectomy
Wilton: Forgot to attach photos - oops. I am absolutely in awe of you, Wilton. I can't believe this is the same car and that you got it back together WHILE USING A WALKER. That is amazing. I wouldn't attempt this. I don't have the patience. Excellent job! Donald H. Re: [MBZ] Fw: 124 evapectomy
Thanks, Donald, but, as I told the license renewal examiner a year ago when he wanted to go for a drive with me, I have trouble standing and walking, not sitting and driving. Most of the evapectomy work is done sitting in the front seats. I can do the little bit of under-hood work leaning on the fender. Considering that I was nearly helpless 18 months ago because of the tremor, it is amazing that I'm able to do it, and I'm very thankful, of course. 'Cept for the heat and humidity, it has been very enjoyable. Let's keep our fingers crossed - the system's not running, yet. 'Gotta replace Freon manifold and dryer and get it serviced with Freon. 'Just looked at manifold on the car again. I may have wrong manifold - something doesn't look right. BTW, the post op photos are in the system somewhere. [MBZ] Fw: 124 evapectomy
Forgot to attach photos - oops. Wilton - Original Message - From: Wilton Strickland [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: mercedes mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Tuesday, June 17, 2008 4:56 PM Subject: [MBZ] 124 evapectomy Here are a coupla post op photos of interior. Still to do: Hook up water and Freon pipes and RR dryer and compressor manifold. 'Had only one little mishap that I know of so far: When I was trying to press one of the little spring clips (~1/2 X 1/4) back in place on outside of the evap/heat exchanger box, my thumb slipped, and clip went flying; 'heard it hit the carpet (real Persian rug) somewhere behind me. 'Looked for it quite a while, but the color patterns on the rug make it hard to find little things like that. Sometimes it helps to lay a flashlight down on the rug and sweep it slowly back and forth like a RADAR beam to be able to find something like that, but no luck this time. 'Probably find it when I hear it in the vacuum cleaner hose. 'Used a tie-wrap/zip-tie in place of the clip. 'Got it out! 'Knew it had to be something simple! Key was NOT COMPLETELY into posit one. Release pin depressed very easily after key was REALLY in posit one. There's VERY close clearance getting the lock mechanism out; 'takes some maneuvering of the mechanism; MB built a rubber wall section into evap box to accomodate removal of the lock mechanism. Locking bolt (one that holds the lock assembly in place, not the steering lock) is VERY LOOSE; key is in posit 1; release pin will not depress to allow withdrawal of the assembly. Tips?
