I feel compelled to comment: by 2030, CO2 emissions will be the least of their worries. Re: [MBZ] Editorial: To save the planet from climate change, gas guzzlers have to die
These guys crack me up. 90% of emissions come from outside the US, especially China and India who are only increasing their number of coal plants. US emissions could go to zero and it wouldn't matter. I think China commissions a new coal plane daily, on average. Second, the US was already on target to meet its Paris Accord targets (even after withdrawing) thanks mainly to fracking natural gas. Third, all these new cars actually reduce emissions to the extent they replace (completely or used instead of) older cars. Of course energy and emissions (ever been to a steel plant?) are required to build new cars (MBZ Diesel content). Replacing the grid will not be emission free, either. Current Green technologies (wind and solar) have their own environmental problems and are unreliable so redundant reliable sources are always needed. Baring some major battery technology breakthrough, hydroelectric, geothermal, and nuclear are the only "clean" reliable options. Hydroelectric and geothermal are only work in regions with special geographies. Looks like nuclear to me. Let's see if the greenies are serious. Many homes around here have a remote power shutoff on the HVAC system so the power company can shed load without killing all power to the home. This technology should be used to shut off power selectively at homes of environmental advocates whenever the green power stops working. -Original Message- From: Mercedes On Behalf Of Floyd Thursby via Mercedes Sent: Monday, March 1, 2021 11:18 AM To: Mercedes Discussion List Cc: Floyd Thursby Subject: [MBZ] Editorial: To save the planet from climate change, gas guzzlers have to die https://news.yahoo.com/editorial-save-planet-climate-change-110020548.html -- --FT ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

There's also transportation as a loss in the case of petroleum. Also spillage... Very difficult to really compare them. -Curt On Monday, March 1, 2021, 12:15:33 PM EST, Jim Cathey via Mercedes wrote: Last I heard, the electrical grid was only something like 50% efficient. >From the article, concerning world wide emissions, " main culprit is energy production, including onsite burning of fossil fuels by industries, which accounts for nearly half." "Energy production" should be correctly stated as "electricity production". Meaning your Tesla/Prius will probably contributes more CO2 to the atmosphere than a well maintained E320. That is not counting all the waste, pollution, and environmental damaged caused in the production of new vehicles. People are dumb. Seemingly educated people are even dumber. No wonder I like my cars better than most people. I'm sure that is why 3/4 of the entire country was just frozen solid... to much global warming.
