They claim the 2.7l v6 is 190hp but I suspect thats at 5000 rpm or some other
crazy number. Its also got that stupid progressive throttle so it feels like it
runs out of juice in the high end... Wait, I remember now this is Mrs. Snook
isn't it? Has some of his car behavior rubbed off on her? I though the
Expedition was a keeper forever...

Yes, it was my wife. She loves the Expedition, but she has started traveling
more for work and really hates the 16 mpg.

Now, what I am about to say may shock many of you. I actually argued for her
to keep the Expedition instead of getting another car. I know it sounds crazy.
But, I remembered what a lot of people on here (and other places) had said
about getting another car just to get better fuel mileage. It doesn't make
sense. She has driven the Expedition for 3 years now and she still really
likes it. But, she has decided that the smart thing to do when she has to go
out of town is to DRIVE MY CAR! That really is okay with me because its not
that often and its not that much of a sacrifice for me. The Expedition is a
nice vehicle. I think driving my car some and the idea of getting better
mileage planted a seed in her mind. Our realtor has a Dodge Charger (with the
Hemi and the cool black graphics for the Daytona R/T package. She started
really admiring it and thinks she really likes the Chargers and the 300.

As far as the 300 goes, there is actually a third engine option. They have a
larger V6. You are right the 2.7 is a complete dog. But, they have a 3.5 that
really is pretty strong. I drove a friends Magnum wagon with the 3.5 and it
has plenty of power. I think the Magnum is a 300 with the wagon rear end added
on. I don't know if she is really serious. I will try to talk her out of it,
but you know what they say:

The 2011 V6 Mustang gets my attention with 31 EPA MPG on the HWY. (the manual
tranny is rated 29mpg, and there should only be about a 20rpm difference at 60
mph in 6th gear, what's up with that?)

Find out how much gas she burned in the last year. Now cut that in half. How
many kilobucks are you willing to spend to achieve that savings?

I totally agree with the Snookman here. I can't say anything either way
about the reliability of the Chrysler 3.5 V6 (although they've been making
it for quite a while, since the cab-forward Concorde/Intrepid days, so
you'd think they'd have worked out the bugs by now), but as for power it's
got plenty. I remember thinking when I test-drove a Charger how much it
felt like a 300E in terms of power delivery and controls. I believe it is
rated at nearly 30 mpg highway, too, thanks to a tall rear end.

Based on the fueleconomy.gov numbers I'd go for the 5.7l v8 if I were getting a
charger, highway numbers are the same between the 2.7 and the 5.7, around town
suffers 2mpg...

If I were looking for that size car though I'd consider a Malibu or Impala. I
had a Malibu for a rental some time ago and was well pleased with the power and
fuel economy. The Fusion is also a fairly nice car.

In any case you're looking at nearly 10mpg better on the highway than the
Expedition which is enough that I don't think it'd take forever to pay off the
difference, especially if you plan to buy and hold...
