Bummer. I buy Snap On for anything I use regularly that's less than 1-1/2. Snap On 5-27 mm just fits better, better ratchets, and eBay has a steady supply of Snap On tools. What's the cost of bloody knuckles because the Craftsman 27 mm keeps falling off the crank damper? If I'm in a hurry I buy direct, they don't charge shipping. For hand tools I don't use regularly I may get them from Harbor Freight. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

[MBZ] Speaking of batteries
I took the old battery out of the boy's (to be the girl's) SD and took it to Interstate to swap it, as it was getting a bit weak and not holding a charge. It was an 85 and turned out to be from June 2007 (71 months). So I ask the guy there if that meant I got some credit on a new one. He goes off to check some mysterious book and a couple minutes later comes back and says a swap with the credit will be $158.something but a new one will be $154.something. I took a few seconds to process that, and asked him why with a credit will be more than buying it outright, and he proceeds to explain to me that the credit price is more than the new price because when that battery was new it was more than the new one, and the credit on it made it more than a new one now. Huh, WTF??? So I asked him to explain that again, and he goes through the same thing, but this time less comprehensible. He apparently, perfectly understood the rationale for this apparent contradiction but was not able to explain it to such a simpleton as me. So the battery is sitting there on the counter, he had gone to get it when I said I needed a swap, so I asked him if that same battery, that one right there, had 2 different prices depending on whether I had one to swap for it, then he tells me that he is giving me $10 off the new price so that is why it is less than the swap price. So I say, OK let's say that battery right there is new, and I will pay the new price for it. He says OK and proceeds to write it up, which for more reasons unclear, took like 5 minutes and involved 3 different machines in different places at the counter. I am plagued by idiots... or maybe I am an idiot and just do not fit into the world well. --R ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Speaking of batteries
I think part of the problem is the franchisee you went to. they make up their own rules. the local one takes 3 people, 2 computers and 15-20 minutes to print an invoice to a pack of AA batteries. Interstate battery joints are ffranchises. The local one told me it would take 2-3 days to get a small battery (similar to a video camera) from the Dist center 30 miles away. I asked them to make arrangements so I could pick it up at the Dist center. we can't do that Bla bla. Face to face. So I called the Corp 800 number and explained that I needed this battery NOW. They made arrangements to pick it up at the DIst center. I had also asked the franchise if another store within 50 miles that has this battery. they said they could not tell me (or would not bother to look) We called around and found one at another store. Later that day I was by the franchise store, so I went in and told them I WAS picking up a battery at the dist center, and also buying one at another store. I told them it was THEIR job to do that work and I didn't appreciate having to do THEIR work for them. I am not impressed with interstate at all. I will buy from oreally or advance. They test the battery and exchange if it is bad. No hassle. Interstate hassle is like snears. She and a guy from back went out to get new battery. I showed her old battery sitting on counter and told her, Here's the receipt for it. She looked at little round sticker on end of battery (10/08), fiddled with her computer and said, You'll get $18.79 adjustment. I replied, I think it should be a lot more than that; you have the receipt for it dated 26 May 09. You gonna use the date I bought it or the date the factory stuck on it? Oh, yeah, she said, Here it is - 26 May 09. She fiddled with computer some more and said, That'll be $89 adjustment. More like it, I replied. 'Finally got new battery and got the hell out of there. Re: [MBZ] Speaking of batteries
This was an Interstate, thought I could get some credito on it. Last time I dealt with Sears, I took a dead battery in, the guy said he would have to put it on their machine to test it, which would take like an hour or more. I told him the thing was like 4 years old, would not hold a charge, it was dead gimme another one. We go round and round on it he won't concede. So I leave it, go do some other errands, get lunch, whatever, come back he tells me it is dead and won't hold a charge. Wow, ya think? So then it takes forever to buy another one, get some credit etc. The whole ordeal ends up taking half a day. No, that was the next to last time, the last time I went in with a dead battery (I think it was the one from the next to last time) and the guy says OK I'll get you another one, go inside I'll be right there. So like 20min later the guy is nowhere to be found, he finally comes in and has to deal with some other guy who has a warranty issue on a newish car, he takes like 10min to explain to the guy he has to take it to a dealer, not Sears, to get the warranty aspect dealt with. Then again it takes like 15 min and 2 cash registers to print out a battery receipt. The whole time I was in there I think I saw like 3 people in the store. You would think these battery places are selling some kind of nuclear weapons grade batteries that need export controls and background checks or something. You can buy a gun quicker than a battery. Re: [MBZ] Speaking of batteries/ratchets
I have a bunch of Crapsman ratchets, and all are in good shape. It has been my experience that if you take a ratchet in for replacement, unless there is something physically wrong with it, like a broken handle, they used to give you a rebuilt kit of sorts, with new innards. 5 minutes with a snap ring pliers and they're good as new. I expect that you'll want a group 49 battery - the more expensive Wal-Mart battery looks VERY attractive. Re: [MBZ] Speaking of batteries
The Walmart battery book does list MB diesels, however the group 49 battery is rarely stocked, and some Walmarts don't want to order them because they have to order them in lots and don't have the storage for the extras. This has been my experience, anyway, and I'm sure the larger stores wouldn't have a problem. J.B.
