You can also make sure your outgoing email is less than 1040 kB. More
than once I have had an outgoing email larger than that and got the alert
email. Cancelling the alert, editing the email, and resending took care
of the problem. (Besides fmiser doesn't have the high-speed Internet
others of us do.)

OT messages are fine with me. Otherwise I would have little interest in this
list because most posts address cars much newer (or older) than my 82 SD. I
would plead for descriptive subject lines when able.

Concerning the pandemic, it is telling us a lot about what works and what
doesn't. That may sound cold but I was trained as a mishap investigator (among
other things).

It's political because people are getting very hurt economically by
layoffs and losing businesses, watching their retirement savings
evaporate, wondering if they are going to lose their house, and all the
while and listening to hysterical reporting and statements by people who
have no medical or epidemiological training and don't seem to have any
perspective.

It is just best to keep the harmony and keep it off the list.

Looks like my feed got shut off again some time in the night.
Whoever keeps putting the list on the ban list just puts it back on after Kaleb
disputes it off.
Did some moron hit the "Spam" button instead of unsubscribing, and did his ISP
pass the word around to all the other ISPs?
I'm thinking of telling 1and1 that I pay them to deliver my mail, not run it

I wouldn't think it could work that way. A teleportation I would
think would have to be a one to one thing. What comes out at the
end would and should be exactly the same as what went in at the
beginning, 100% the same 100% of the time. Otherwise you would
end up with incremental errors that eventually end up killing the
transportee due to too many errors to sustain life. This could
even happen at any time depending on what error is made where if
any deviation is allowed. Rewriting cancer cells with the same
type of cells as are around the cancer may cause more problems
then it cures. Then again maybe not. This is all conjecture and
wishful thinking anyway.

I know that Next Gen episode. Scotty is trapped in a Dyson Sphere.

So, as it relates to my conundrum, it would not be like Kirk and Spock going
back to save the Whales, or Picard and NCC 1701 E going back to save Zephram
Cochran from the Borg.I would have to be entangled on a quantum level to
teleport to anyplace. I and the SDL would go POOF! in a manner that deletes
the original and recreates it in the new location?Does this also satisfy
the conservation of energy? I am not really creating or destroying anything.
It just works? God is not rolling the dice with the universe?

If I am going to have to deal with wizards or aliens and their comings and
goings, they are just as likely to be using the flue network as they are to be
moving backward and returning along the timeline? That must mean that the cost
to go next door is much the same as it would be for me to get in the SDL and
zip back to 1986. Does the effect…? Well, it must, if going down the street
is the same as moving 30 years, I can just show up with the SDL in Dallas in
1986 as I am to run into Marty McFly in his Delorean at prom with his parents.

Quantum entanglement is of considerable interest in physics nowadays; as well
as quantum teleportation theories which are part of it:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Quantum Entanglement Could Stretch Across Time

In the weird world of quantum physics, two linked particles can share a single
fate, even when they’re miles apart.

Now, two physicists have mathematically described how this spooky effect,
called entanglement, could also bind particles across time.

If their proposal can be tested, it could help process information in quantum
computers and test physicists’ basic understanding of the universe.

“You can send your quantum state into the future without traversing the middle
time,” said quantum physicist S. Jay Olson of Australia’s University of
Queensland, lead author of the new study.

In ordinary entanglement, two particles (usually electrons or photons) are so
intimately bound that they share one quantum state — spin, momentum and a host
of other variables — between them. One particle always “knows” what the other
is doing. Make a measurement on one member of an entangled pair, and the other
changes immediately.

Physicists have figured out how to use entanglement to encrypt messages in
uncrackable codes and build ultrafast computers. Entanglement can also help
transmit encyclopedias’ worth of information from one place to another using
only a few atoms, a protocol called quantum teleportation.

In a new paper posted on the physics preprint website arXiv.org, Olson and
Queensland colleague Timothy Ralph perform the math to show how these same
tricks can send quantum messages not only from place to place, but from the
past to the future.

The equations involved defy simple mathematical explanation, but are intuitive:
If it’s impossible to describe one particle without including the other, this
logically extends to time as well as space.

“If you use our timelike entanglement, you find that [a quantum message] moves
in time, while skipping over the intermediate points,” Olson said. “There
really is no difference mathematically. Whatever you can do with ordinary
entanglement, you should be able to do with timelike entanglement.”

Olson explained them with a Star Trek analogy. In one episode, “beam me up”
teleportation expert Scotty is stranded on a distant planet with limited air
supply. To survive, Scotty freezes himself in the transporter, awaiting rescue.
When the Enterprise arrives decades later, Scotty steps out of the machine
without having aged a day.

“It’s not time travel as you would ordinarily think of it, where it’s like,
poof! You’re in the future,” Olson said. “But you get to skip the intervening
time.”

According to quantum physicist Ivette Fuentes of the University of Nottingham,
who saw Olson and Ralph present the work at a conference, it’s “one of the most
interesting results” published in the last year.

“It stimulated our imaginations,” said Fuentes. “We know entanglement is a
resource and we can do very interesting things with it, like quantum
teleportation and quantum cryptography. We might be able to exploit this new
entanglement to do interesting things.”

One such interesting thing could involve storing information in black holes,
said physicist Jorma Louko, also of the University of Nottingham.

“They show that you can use the vacuum, that no-particle state, to store a lot
of information in just a couple of atoms, and recover that info from other
atoms later on,” Louko said. “The details of that have not been worked out, but
I can foresee that the ideas that these authors use could be adapted to the
black hole context.”

Entanglement in time could also be used to investigate as-yet-untested
fundamentals of particle physics. In the 1970s, physicist Bill Unruh predicted
that, if a spaceship accelerates through the empty space of a vacuum, particles
should appear to pop out of the void. Particles carry energy, so they would be,
in effect, a warm bath. Wave a thermometer outside, and it would record a
positive temperature.

Called the Unruh effect, this is a solid prediction of quantum field theory.
It’s never been observed, however, as a spaceship would have to accelerate at
as-yet-unrealistic speeds to generate an effect large enough to be testable.
But because timelike entanglement also involves particles emerging from
vacuums, it could be used to conduct more convenient searches, relying on time
rather than space.

Finding the Unruh effect would provide support for quantum field theory. But it
might be even more exciting not to see the effect, Olson said.

“It would be more of a shocking result,” Olson said. “If you didn’t see it,
something would be very wrong with our understanding.”

And that history has repeated with the current administration. Except this
time we surrendered after we won. We left the vacuum that spawned ISIS. We
set up the Middle East for a nuclear arms race. At the same time we created
a domestic welfare state with almost half the people living off the rest and
exploding the National debt. That's not politics, its facts.

I'm kidding of course. And Mao.. Carter was President when the current
muslim republic of Iran was formed by the then exiled ayatollah Khomeini,
by
driving the Shah out of power, who was a friend of America and we did a
lot of
trade with Iran, under his rule.
During his rule, I spent 2 yrs in Iran on a government contract, so I got
to know
the country pretty well. It was known then as a center of high fashion and
culture. The Persian women are among the most beautiful in the world,
[something I remember, being a young man at that time], who dressed in
stunning ways in the latest European fashion.. not in hijab and burka like
now.

The Ayatollah and his muslim minions took over the country, seized the
United States Embassy and held all the occupants hostage for a very long
time.
Mr Carter was not effective in recovering them, or setting the hostage
takers
straight. An Embassy is Sovereign Soil, so seizing it is an act of war, by
all
known rules.. yet nothing was done that made any difference and America
was
made to appear a weak country, which set the stage for the current
circumstances. The steps going forward would make a history thesis so I
will
hold back on those, they are easily found as a matter of record. Terrorist
demands were made and not dealt with by the office of President in a way
that marked Mr. Carter forever as weak as a leader.

Mr. Regan was elected to replace him and announced his plan to recover
the
hostages who had grown nearly gray while waiting to be rescued, and they
were released within only a few days of him taking office...which further
empathized how non preforming Mr. Carter had been.

In the interest of list purity I submit this only to give closure to my
earlier
comment.. so everyone stand at ease.. nothing further on the subject.

I understand Mr. Carter is given very little chance of survival at this
point. We
have a remarkable number of former presidents still living. More than ever

OK folks, tone it down.

There has been a fair amount of political discussion here that has been
civil and respectful. That’s OK. Tasteless comments about people, even
politicians, are right out as are any direct attacks or disrespect to list
members or anyone else, for that matter.

Yes, Dwight, I would agree. The comment was more appropriate for Banned,
however, sometimes we (myself included) tend to be a bit quick on the
keyboard and are flippant about things better left for other venues.

Play nice, respect the individual (and office, if it applies) and carry
on, please.

Not sure why or if responding fixed it.

running a list which assumed that list members were mature adults who could use
their delete key if they disliked a submission, and your method which requires
that each member must avoid any subject that he guesses might upset another

politics, and what I wrote was not about politics; it was about the freedom of
communication on the world-wide-web; something that millions of internet users
are highly concerned about.

As far as this being a Mercedes list we both know anything and everything

Hi Dan,
I have one suggestion and then I'll say no more:
Try to avoid scolding members with whom you disagree. (See your scold
below.) One member wrote me that he was leaving the list because of your
attitude; i.e. you apparently scolded him.

Otherwise, perhaps you could get with the Ritter list management and combine
the two lists. Some of the long time members on this list know what I mean.

Driving along in a rental SUV (not a merc) in the middle of nowhere I
looked to my 9 oclock and saw a shiny ball way off in the distance,
looked at the road and looked back and it was gone.
Anyway I don't particularly like those TV shows where people claim to
have seem this or that, just more crap to fill the airwaves with.
Given the proliferation of camera equipped phones, we should be seeing
some footage of space ships any time soon but then with alien tech they
can make themselves invisible to cameras.

I was out practicing night operations tonight in the Cessna. I wonder is
any of the locals reported me - flying low with all those flashing lights,
in a semi-rural area at night??? We saw one UFO - but it seemed to be
heading to Will Rogers airport - - - just because I couldn't identify it,
doesn't mean it was piloted by aliens. I was too pre-occupied keeping the
runway lights turned on on our 2500 ft. grass strip to take a picture of
the UFO :-)
