Might be other things, but the speedo cable makes a squealing noise when it is about to break. You might try lubing it, but chances are it's going to go, if it's squealing. Not a real difficult replacement (though the one I did was on an 85 190D. Ron Dwelle On Nov 21, 2005, at 9:51 AM, Tom

My 77 240D did that for a while. I "reseated" the speedo cable (took it out, blew the dust off of it, and reattached) and the noise went away and has stayed away. I think it had just become a bit loose, and tightening fixed the problem. On 11/21/05, Tom Scordato <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Car

Car is a 1979 240 D with 75K. Drove it this week end and it develped a noise around 35 mph might be coming from instrument cluster. Kind of a high to midrange noise. Once car drops below 35 mph and is rolling with no load on the engine, Noise stops. Noise is independent of fuel throttle and n
