I think you will find the mounts and plugs different, but go snag em.
If you take the seat off the electric slides, then put them on the 126
slides, I think you will be happy. Otherwise, you can swap covers.

I think there may be a green TE in the yard with green interior. I am
going to think the hook ups for the seats are the same, so I might be
able to plug it in. Any opinions on if the seats will fit into a Gen

How much is new? That would be the preferred route from a safety /

[MBZ] 124 seat belts

2015-12-07 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes
Has anyone removed or repaired 124 seat belts? The driver's seat
belt will not extend. I took off the cover and loosened the
retractor, but don't see any way to get the plastic covers off to
free up whatever dog or pawl is stuck. I am reluctant to try to pry
off the connector to the shotgun shell on the upright tube, although
the book says it pulls off. It did not pull off with what I'd call
normal pressure.

http://www.w124performance.com/service/w124CD2/Program/Chassis/91-502.pdf

I've not encountered seat belts with explosive devices before. If I
soak the retractor with penetrating oil is it likely to free up?

My plan was to either free it up or get a used one. Looks like you
have to take the seat out to remove it, so freeing it up is the
preferred route.

for 1993 on. No diagrams for the seats.

Well, the USA models all have electric seats, and they are
different than the sketch in the CD section 91. There is a motor
right and left. What I would need to do is run the right motor
forward to even up the seat back. There is NO ROD connecting right
and left.

Without diving into the wiring diagrams, which are likely
incomplete on the CD, it may be easier at this point to swap the
seat backs. It would be for sure easier if the donor seat was the
right color.

i will spend a small amount of time looking at the wiring to see if
the right motor could be run a bit

The driver's seat in my 87 300D has had a twisted back since I got
the car. Today's project is the seat.

Q1: Are the passenger and driver's seat (above the mounting and
slides) interchangeable as are the 123?

I have a spare passenger seat that I can use for parts, but i'd
have to change the seat covers.

Q2: Someone in the past suggested there is a rod in the back tilt
mechanism that might be off one tooth left to right that causes the
back frame to twist. However on the 124 seat, I have not found
this rod or how to change it. I am not seeing much helpful on the
section 91 of the CD.

One possibility is to remove the backs, of both seats and swap the
covers. That is a lot of work, and if there is an easier way, I am
listening.

The drive cables wear out the socket in the gears. As the cables flex and the
seat moves, the drive moves out of the socket in the gear, and it either spins
or the drive skips a portion of a turn.

This is a common issue for both 124 and 126 chassis power seats. By taking the
slack out of the cable you can force the drive farther in to the gear and buy
some time before total failure.

On the manual seats, it's the rod you slip out of one side.
Run both sides back to their stops, then reconnect things.
Electric backs are similar, but I think they have two drive

this seat does not have a flexible cable for the back adjustment. It
has a drive motor connected to the geardrive on the left, and SOLID
rod that goes to the right gear. There was no wear. There is no way
to get access to the rod without disassembling the seat.

How it got messed up does not matter. It was that way when I got the car.

[MBZ] 124 seat

2011-10-09 Thread Dieselhead
After more disassembly, I find I was wrong, there IS a rod. The left
motor runs the back, the right motor runs the headrest up and down.
At this point, it seems there is no way to pull or adjust the rod.
It also seems like swapping the back will not be the easiest as I did
not take out the headrest of either seat. So it will be difficult to
find the pins to run the functions I need to run the headrest out,
and to remove the seat back wiring from the seat bottom.

So, I need to either find out how to adjust the rod. OR
figure out the pin system to get out the headrest.

Headrest is also complicated by the fact that the door switch for
the seats has the headrest broken, so putting the seat back in to run

Well, the USA models all have electric seats, and they are different

Q1: Are the passenger and driver's seat (above the mounting and
slides) interchangeable as are the 123?

I have a spare passenger seat that I can use for parts, but i'd have
to change the seat covers.

Q2: Someone in the past suggested there is a rod in the back tilt
mechanism that might be off one tooth left to right that causes the
back frame to twist. However on the 124 seat, I have not found this
rod or how to change it. I am not seeing much helpful on the section
91 of the CD.

One possibility is to remove the backs, of both seats and swap the
covers. That is a lot of work, and if there is an easier way, I am
listening.

Re: [MBZ] 124 seat

2011-10-09 Thread Dieselhead
I figured out how to run the seat motor to adjust the back tilt from
the seat back electric harness. It is the two big pins in the plug.
on this seat the tilt has one harness and the headrest has a separate
harness. On the donor seat, the headrest had one cable and the back
tilt was two pins in the big plug, where on mine, the tilt has 5
wires, two big and 3 small wires.

The rod is held in place at each end by a spring with the end stuffed
in a hole in the drive. I was able to get one end of the rod loose
and run the motor until it hit the stop. Each side seemed to hit the
stop at different places.

the spare seat turned out to be worthless. It was stamped with a
mfg. date of 11 86. It came out of an 87. The original seat was not
stamped, but the car was built in 06/87, so it is somewhat later,
although both are 1987 models. The electrics of the seat back, where
connected to the bottom are completely different between the donor
and recipient. The idea of swapping backs was abandoned.

I was not able to get the seat cover loose at the top of the back,
where the seat back attaches at the top also. So, I left the seat
cover on the original seat. I tried to get the right and left sides
lined up when I put it together. It got dark on me, so tomorrow I
will try to see if the back is better or still twisted. I think it
is improved, because the prior time I took the back loose, I had to
twist it to get the bolts back in. Tonight, the bolt holes lined up.

Thanks Wilton, for the .pdf.

You need to re-phase the left and right side gear quadrants.
On the manual seats, it's the rod you slip out of one side.
Run both sides back to their stops, then reconnect things.
Electric backs are similar, but I think they have two drive
cables, one to each end of the appropriate motor.

Great info Joe. Good to see you posting again.

That explains why the seats in the '87 feel so much different than the'90.
Dave also has a couple of nice pics on his website of the foam blocks. I
assume I can get them from Rusty?

I wonder if they will completely cure my problem. I seem to sink into the
rear center of the seat. Could there be broken springs similar to what
happens on 123 seats?

Broken springs can certainly be a fly in the ointment, Ralph. But if
the seat frames are intact and the cushions not completely worn out
I'll warrant that you'll have a hard time believing the effect that 2
little foam blocks placed between the coils across the front of the
seat can have. Dave posted to that effect and I can only confirm his
stated impression. Don't know what they cost now but I paid 7
change per for the 4 I got earlier in the year. I should state that
probably early last year I completely disassembled my seats, confirmed
no broken springs, and stitched several layers of synthetic burlap
stretched as tightly as I could to the tops of the frames. That had
some small effect but nothing compared to the blocks.

Re: [MBZ] 124 seat bottoms

2006-12-19 Thread Joe Knight

With the seat electrics involved separation of the seat back from the
bottom is kind of a pita. btdt. Additionally, the seat memory for
the driver's seat would require that you interchange the control
modules if you want to retain that feature. If your seat bottom is
just 'flaccid', there's a much easier fix that'll make a world of
difference. After about 04/89, there were installed universally at
the factory 2 foam blocks in each front seat. I just last week
finally got around to installing those into the seats of my wagon and
they completely transformed the seat. It was Dave Meimann I believe
who first discovered that this is a factory specified fix for the
problem as indicated in the Programmed Repairs section of the fsm in
group 91. You'll also find some similar documentation at his website
that I believe came from the WIS. Look for 'seat boost' at:
http://www.w124performance.com/docs/mb/W124/
http://www.w124performance.com/images/W124_stuff/.

I said it's easier than swapping. That's assuming you haven't found a
pristine junkyard seat with which to replace the entire assembly.
You'll still have to pull the seat and a couple of plastic trim pieces
and tease the cushion bottom out of the channel in the frame. As it'd
been a while since I'd had the front seats out it took me probably 2.5
hours soup to nuts for the driver's side. Couple of days later with
that more recent experience under my belt I did the passenger side in
1.5 hrs. If they're not already broken don't be surprised if you do
break at least one of those plastic trims trying to get them off;
fortunately they're not horrendously expensive to replace.
