Don't remember about that one but a lot of the
connectors inside the plastic parts are soldered
onto the wire. Sounds like someone took a shortcut
there.

Tight can keep it from starting. Tight is u
The wire came loose right at the connector. It looks like someone repaired it
before since the wire has been stripped. I think I just pulled it out of the
connector. Hopefully, I’ll have a working temp gauge once I slip it back
together and tighten it down.

Yes. They are made of thin, spring-type material which has been bent to a
radius so they perform a locking function.

Are washers required under the air filter housing mounting nuts? Also, while
Messing with the main linkage from the valve cover down to the IP, I knocked
off the wire to what I believe is the temperature sending unit. Can I just take
the connector apart, re-route the wire inside the connector, a

If it was already messed up, maybe all you can do is improve it!

Today, I started the process of adjusting the valves on my 1982 240D. When I
did the last one, 1981 300CD over 10 years ago, my Dad did most of the r&r of
the valve cover and linkages/vacuum lines. This one is all on me, and I hope I
can get it back together tomorrow or Monday. I know that the v
