124 evaporator is a sick thing, but there is really nothing you can do
about

it. they will at some point start to leak. all you can really do at that
point is either spend big bucks or use some sort of miracle chemical stop
leak and pray.

interestingly, my ex wife has about 230k on her 92 300E and the thing
blows

cold as new and the center vents are still blowing fine.

 Listers,

I have not fallen off the face of the Earth. I have just been VERY busy
and my computer/email has really been acting up.

I am not sure if this will even go through. But, in case it does, here
goes.

I found a 1991 300E in VERY nice shape. My indy has it. He always has
7-10 cars on his lot and I saw this one this morning. It has 151,000
miles.
It is that desert sand metallic color, leather seats, paint looks good
with
only a very small scratch on the rear quarter panel. Otherwise, it
looks
perfect. He wasn;t there yet, so I don't anything about it mechanically
or

if he has any history with the car.

Any thoughts on prices? Other suggestions or things to check out?

Re: [MBZ] 1991 300E Price?

2009-05-05 Thread LarryT
Don't know anything about the gas engine version but the diesel is one
of the best MBs made IMHO.
My '91 300D has been really nice and the mileage on the one you are looking
at and mine are similar (mine's at 165k) so you may have some issues which
are related problems. Things like the rubber donuts on the exhaust -
perhaps even the exhaust system, a good tranny fluid & filter change with
Mobil 1 ATF going in, a check of the suspension bushings - but with the low
mileage they should be good. The sound system is quirky - the OE has a
Becker OE Head Unit w/cassette player in the dash connected to a amplifier
and tuner in the trunk. Some people have changed these out for more modern
systems but the wiring often must be re-routed making it a time consuming
operation. An option is the CD changer mounted in the trunk. The OE
Becker unit is impossible to find parts for - but there are Alpine units
which work instead.

My power locks and ACC have worked perfectly except for the passenger
door lock sometimes not making the other doors lock/unlock - but that's
minor to me. The ACC always works as it should. We operate it like the OM
suggests - set it on a temp and leave it. That lets the systems open &
close all the components and keeps them healthy.

The only other problem I've had has been the ACC fan - which requires
the WW to be removed - then the fan can be removed - some people are able to
clean and lubricate them - I replaced mine. My other work has been engine
related and really is maintanence items like the serpentine belt and its
components...

It should be easy to have the gas engine checked out - a compression
test and leak-down (some people don't like these) will tell much about the
engine.

   God luck -
