Re: [MBZ] 1999 Mercedes SL500 - 65k miles - $9,500

2022-07-25 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
There was a woman on a FB group in eastern NC with a SLK that needed
hydraulics. Mech quoted something like $5k. She didn’t know what to do, was
looking for a mech who might know what to do. I suggested she look at top
hydraulics and talk to the shop in Chapel Hill, decide if the job was worth
outsourcing or DIY. She said her husband was moderately competent. Heard
nothing more.

It’s a shame these cars cost more to fix at a mech than it’s worth putting into
them. I was just talking to a friend today about the CL500. The PO was tired of
throwing money at it with no resolution. My grand total cost for getting it
fixed was 2 fuses and some electrons to charge the battery. I sent her a text
the other day and told her I had it on the road and it was working great, she
was very happy to know that.

Oh well, I guess more fodder for us fools. The $900E350 will get sorted soon,
the $900E500 needs a new wheel for the new tire and it will be back on the road
again. Both after POs being quoted $ks to put in new transmissions.

Depends on whether it DIY or you’re paying someone.

DIY - 2 full days of labor for R, around $1,000 for rebuilt cylinders

Paying someone: A hell of a lot more than DIY, many thousands of $$$
