Re: [MBZ] 201 4 vs 6
Kevin, while the 2.6 is a 6 cylinder gas, the 2.3 is a 4 cylinder gas engine. The 2.6 is shoehorned in and is hard to work on and not much faster than the 4 cylinder model. These statements are from personal experience, I assume? RLE

I countered: These statements are from personal experience, I assume? That's correct sir, he replied huffily. Here's my hands-on personal experience. I owned my '85 190E 2.3 from 1/85 to 2/89 and my 190E 2.6 from 2/89 to 3/95 and I disagree completely. The six cylinder engine is very easy to maintain and normal service items including pre-Topsider oil changes are easy to access. Including a belt change. The six is quieter, smoother, and noticeably more powerful with only a slight gas mileage penalty. And, from '89 on, the 2.6 trans can be modified for first gear start if desired. Mine was modified in '92 when the fix details became available from MBUSA. RLE/Seattle
Re: [MBZ] 201 4 VS 6
Well, they decided to buy a nice 1993 190E 2.3 limited edition with 200K miles on it. It has maintenance records back to delivery from the original owner, rebuilt engine and tranny, new tires, all belts and hoses replaced, new struts, alt, radiator, all of the BIG stuff, and the AC works. They got it for $2700 which isn't too bad. Kevin in Hillsboro Oregon 1981 300CD 204K miles, Giesela
Re: [MBZ] 201 4 VS 6
The six is quieter, smoother, and noticeably more powerful... I was thinking the 2.6 / 5sp was almost as fast (straight line) as the 16V. Isn't it somewhere around 160hp? Mitch.
