Perhaps you at least learned that you can not learn anything by
checking the engine oil while the engine is running??
I think you were lucky that the engine didn't seize!

Yes, it was pathetically stupid...I think I was
thinking of 300SD ATF check procedure. I have never
checked oil before on a running engine. Very humbling.

My car consumes a quart of oil in about 800
It was about 35 degrees this morning. 240D (with goopy
mixture of Kero/D2/oil/etc) started on the third
crank. Ran fine, as always.
After about 15 minutes of driving, I noticed that the
oil pressure was not at 45...and that it was flopping
all over. Up, down...up when slowing down, up when
