[MBZ] 300D radio on off problem
Thanks Randy Rich; better to buy cheap radio w. cd player in it my 85 has a kenwood radio w. a 5 disk changer in trunk(supposed to be 6 disk but one plastic disk holder broke HA!); this was wired thru the center balance switch;(i don't think this is the correct way, considering the radio has 4 sets of speaker wires for 4 sep. speakers)?? I rewired it all to get 4 diff. speakers separate bought some CHEAP speakers, sounds better than the cracked orig. ones need 1 plastic cd tray for the Kenwood 6 disk changer Steve

Yes, bypass the fader, wire the 4 spkrs directly. Even some cheap spkrs will sound much better. --R Stephen D Murrell wrote: Thanks Randy Rich; better to buy cheap radio w. cd player in it my 85 has a kenwood radio w. a 5 disk changer in trunk(supposed to be 6 disk but one plastic disk holder broke HA!); this was wired thru the center balance switch;(i don't think this is the correct way, considering the radio has 4 sets of speaker wires for 4 sep. speakers)?? HA!; just use radio for my satalite radio only anyway; any advise would be greatly appreciated Steve

Me too but I'm no help as I have not yet looked at it. Just works sometimes and as you say, go over railway tracks or something similar and off it goes. I assumed it had to be something simple and intended just to replace the whole radio with a new cd player type. Re: [MBZ] 300D radio on off problem
It is really simple to get at, pull out the ashtray, knobs, and it sorta becomes obvious (there are a couple of plates with screws that hold the unit in the mount). The wires are not very substantial, probably wore off some insulation or the connector is loose. If you get in there, it is probably worth throwing in a new unit (even a cheap one will be infinitely better than the original), with CD player, aux inputs, 4 spkr wires to bypass the fader, new power wire, etc, and some new speakers. It is a DIN mount, so a new unit slides right in. This is not a hard or time-consuming job, few tools reqd, and I think you would really enjoy the results. Keep the old unit if you ever want a period piece back in the car. --R R A Bennell wrote: Me too but I'm no help as I have not yet looked at it.
