The Sprint Classic is a summer tire, not to be used below about 40 degrees F.

Ah, well I guess the point is that there are many possible Vredestein
options, but the one I assumed you meant, for the 14" rims being discussed,
was the Sprint Classic.

Re: [MBZ] 300D tire size best choice?

2021-10-04 Thread David Bruckmann via Mercedes
Alas, Michelin no longer makes the Defender in relevant 14" sizes.

I have always used Michelins and generally had excellent experience with them
EXCEPT the last set, which instead of being made in Canada were made in Mexico.
The car simply didn't track straight with them. Had the alignment done twice to
no avail... turned out it was the tires.

For my W116.120 I'm considering going to a Kumho Solus 195/75R14, which most
closely resembles the OE 185HR14 tires. Those tires had about an "80" aspect
ratio.

I need to buy four sets of 14" tires, so this will be a fateful first step.

Vredestein, if you mean their Sprint Classic, is more than $200/tire. At that
point I'd go for genuine Michelin XWX, which are around $300/ea.

This link should show a whole list of 195/70R14 tars on the Bozos River,
Hankook is in there as well as Kumho Solus TA11 All-Season Tire -
195/70R14 91Tfor $74 which are pretty decent tires.  Of course you would
have to get them mounted etc maybe another $15 per.

Re: [MBZ] 300D tire size best choice?

2021-10-03 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
In my experience with a W123 you need somewhat "sticky" tires. If you buy the
ones on sale at the local tire chain with the good mileage warranty, you will
be spinning your tires in the rain and going nowhere in the snow.

If you have neither rain nor snow, I guess you are OK with pretty much anything.

195 is the factory size? Hankook I think is what you mean. Kumho has that size
as do other companies. I just looked for some on Amazon for the 300CD, there
were a bunch of different vendors and the prices were pretty good, free
shipping on many. Like $70-75 each for Kumhos. Now I get emails every few days
with a list of tires!

Time to put a set of tires on one of my 300D cars. I've located a local
source that can supply Hancock Optimo H724 tires in 185x75xR14.
Question:
Is the 185 x 75 tire an OK size for the 300D?
Any experience with Hancock?
Thanks in advance.
