On my 124 cars, the nuts are copper I think, I know they are not steel.
They are one-time-use, designed to come off easily without corrosion
welding them to the stud.

Use the factory copper plated ones. Otherwise they tend to seize.

Well despite lots of injector etc maintenance my 300td has been getting weak.
We did a compression test and got something like 420 on all cyls, so that is
good.
I knew i had an exhaust leak. I had thought it was the flex pipe, but alas
inspection revealed that my exhaust (and intake
