the simple things such as the reservoir cap checks out!
If the radiator cap won't hold pressure it'll escape
out the overflow tube to the ground. But only when hot.

For new and used parts go
If I recall some words from Marshall Booth isn't seepage from the head
gasket at #1 cylinder a possible cause? Left unattended for too long this
was thought to contribute to rod bending. Of course check and make sure
the simple things such as the reservoir cap checks out!

Yes, I think so. the dreaded # 1 cyl seep is my greatest fear.

Alternately, there are freeze plugs in the block on that side, aren't there?
