Yes. I remember that bolt not so fondly. Re: [MBZ] 606 tensioner bolt hole stripped
I used a timesert repair once, it was on a stripped VW oil drain plug. It worked very well. IIRC, they send you the insert, along with a drill, tap, and installation tool. Once you install the insert, you send the drill, tap, and installation tool back. If the bore has already been helicoiled, you may not be able to use the timesert. I think I used a helicoil once but not on a critical bolt like this. This one is your old e300 which I knew the day would come someday. I wonder if this approach is easier or just replacing the cover? Re: [MBZ] 606 tensioner bolt hole stripped
Bolt would have to be the same size as it’s specific to the tensioner. [MBZ] 606 tensioner bolt hole stripped
On this 606 of my dads, we knew the tensioner threads were partially stripped out. It was previously “fixed” with jb weld or lock tight but was a little cockeyed. A while back I decided to replace the tensioner and try and “fix” it better. Today I was replacing the aux coolant pump and noticed it has gotten much worse and appears to be ready to come out at any moment. I need to fix this properly. Im assuming the best approach is to drill it out and use a timesert or something similar? Anybody know what size it is? Anybody got any better ideas? I don’t think I should drive it up to Okie acres to work on it will probably trailer it and need to get this done asap.
