The 78 transmissions don't exhibit the B-2 failure.

Thx for the info.  Now, if I can find out what's wrong with the 83 300D 
(waiting on email from owner) with the bad tranny for sale, maybe I'll be 
able to buy that one too!

You may still have some forward speeds with a bad (but not completely
stuck) B2 piston. If the car slips badly in first, but will hook up OK
in higher gears, it's probably still the dreaded B2 problem.

Have located a 83 300D Turbo needing AT work.  My 78 240D AT works fine - 
will I be able to transplant the 78 240 into the 83 300Turbo?  I know I'll 
need to modify my AT to accept the 300D vacuum controls but other than that?

Have only driven by to look at it - still need details on what is wrong with 
the 300 tranny --
