Lexus is nasty trash. I have little respect for anyone who owns one.

Maybe an LS 400? Supposed to be of a good quality when new and sought after
since it was very reliable. They held their value as used cars for many many
years. If somebody has taken quality care of one, I would think it may be no
worse than a w124. I do not think any japanese cars are going to compare
favorably with a W123 for long term reliability.

There is a growing collector market for earlier oriental cars. A 1977 Celica
is much sought after. There was a 1990 Supra that brought large money at
auction this past summer. These are the cars the younger collectors grew up
with, are cheap to get into and pretty simple to put back into service.

The ES300 and later ES330 are based on the V6 Camrry. They are rock solid and
pretty much bullet proof. The LS400 and later LS430 were the flagship of the
Lexus fleet. It is said that the Lexus engineers took a W126 sedan and copied a
lot of the technology of it. There are quirks with the LS though, the starter
is buried beneath the intake manifold, for instance. If he can't be dissuaded
from a Lexus, I'd advise the newest LS model, with the lowest miles he can
afford. For my money, I will be sticking with W210 cars for daily driver's.
They have a few problem areas, but once those issues are attended to, they are
as bullet proof as any Japanese auto.

LS300 if you can find one. They’re pretty much bulletproof. Tough to find a
good one, though. People don’t let go of them easily.

[MBZ] A Lexus Equivalent

2019-01-31 Thread Bob Rentfro via Mercedes
A work associate I have knows our collective love for the older MBs and how we
keep them on the road and so forth. He was asking me which Lexus model would
be the near equivalent of, say, a W123 for example, that could be picked up
cheaply and through love and care be kept on the road? Does this question make
sense?
