I can’t speak for this one, but I will say I was always skeptical of them, too, 
until I got the 96 SL500, which had one of the factory windscreens.

It’s amazing the difference they make, at least the on on the R129 did. I was 
shocked at how much it cut down wind noise as well as just the wind itself! You 
could drive the car with a hat on and it wouldn’t fly off if you were using the 
windscreen. That and the amount of wind noise it cut down, too. Made it a lot 
easier to talk in the cockpit if the top was down.
