Thx Dan, Will give it a try - I have a fresh can of PB Blaster and some vice grips with nice sharp teeth - but I'm not looking forward to doing all that work laying on my back! ;-) Thanks for the suggestions -- Larry T (67 MGB, 74 911, 78 240D, 91 300D) www.youroil.net for Oil Analysis and Weber Parts Test Results http://members.rennlist.com/oil PORSCHE POSTERS! youroil.net Weber Carb Info http://members.rennlist.com/webercarbs . - Original Message - From: "LWB250" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mercedes Discussion List" Sent: Monday, July 23, 2007 6:14 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] ABS Flush > Larry, > > I would encourage you to begin soaking the fittings > with penetrating lube if you haven't already. Larry, I would encourage you to begin soaking the fittings with penetrating lube if you haven't already. As for the ones that the gorilla rounded off, try taking a pair of ViceGrips to them once they've been soaking for a couple of days. It's not an ideal approach, but it's worked for me on a couple of occassions. As for bending the new line, remove the old one first and use it as a template. If you take your time and do a little at a time, you'll have no problem getting the new line to a reasonable facsimile of the original - as long as it fits and doesn't rub on anything, you'll be good for several 100k... Re: [MBZ] ABS Flush
Thx Dan, Yep, way ahead of you. Actually, I was going to replace all the rubber lines and flush the brake fluid when I discovered a chimpanze had worked on the calipers at some point in the past. All 4 bleeders ere rounded off like they'd been tightened with a pair of pliers. Rather than risk taking the car off the road for several days as I attempted to repair the bleed valves, I bought a set (4) of '95 E300D calipers from a fellow lister who upgraded his brakes. I cleaned them up and painted the making them a direct replacement along with the almost new Padgid pads and excellent rotors. Then my nightmare took a turn for the worse when I found the rear metal brake lines had been tweaked by the same monkey. All the flare nuts were rounded off. Great, just great. So, Rusty ordered one from Germany and had the other on the shelf. Now, I have 2 straight metal brake lines which I will need to fit into place by bending them properly. More fun. Can't wait. Anyway, I finished the fronts because they were the less damaged of the 4. Next, I'll tackle the rears when my wife can be without her car for a little while. Not looking forward to removing the brake lines from the splitter next to the diff. - and like the idea of bending & fitting the metal lines it promises to be filled with agony. I'll probably need to cut them off somehow. That's the whole sordid story up to now. When I replace all the rear stuff I'll probably have some more problems to report. ;-) Have a nice week - Larry T (67 MGB, 74 911, 78 240D, 91 300D) www.youroil.net for Oil Analysis and Weber Parts Test Results http://members.rennlist.com/oil PORSCHE POSTERS! youroil.net Weber Carb Info http://members.rennlist.com/webercarbs . - Original Message - From: "LWB250" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "Mercedes Discussion List" Sent: Monday, July 23, 2007 2:46 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] ABS Flush >I would seriously consider replacing all the brake > lines at this time as well. Re: [MBZ] ABS Flush
I would seriously consider replacing all the brake lines at this time as well. As they age they swell internally, cutting down on the amount of fluid and pressure that can reach the calipers. It's a cheap part and the difference is noticeable. Worst case scenario, you get a line that has swollen badly enough inside and it acts like a one way check vale and your caliper on that wheel locks up. It happens. Re: [MBZ] ABS Flush
The inside diameter of the brake lines isn't very big , they don't hold all that much fluid. The new stuff generally appears at the bleeders pretty quick, especially if using a pressure bleeder and you've removed all the old fluid from the reservoir before starting. --Robert LarryT wrote: > Howdy - > I am replacing my rotors & calipers on the - 91 300D 2.5t W124 - and > flushing the brake fluid as I bleed the system. [MBZ] ABS Flush
Howdy - I am replacing my rotors & calipers on the - 91 300D 2.5t W124 - and flushing the brake fluid as I bleed the system. I am using a Pressure Bleeder and maintaining 20 + #'s on the bleeder. I am using Ate "Blue" brake fluid so I can tell when fresh fluid has filled the part of the system I am working on - I'll use the Gold Ate next time. . However, the blue seems to appear pretty quickly and I am worried the ABS unit may not be being flushed. Didn;t see anything in the WSM about it - should I proceed as I am or is there something else I should do when bleeding? BTW, I have rebuilt the calipers and cleaned any sludge out so they're in good shape. Am I doing all that is needed or is there more I need to do? Thanks Peter, I've been delaying doing the flush - hopefully I'll do it thiss weekend - Larry T (67 MGB, 74 911, 78 240D, 91 300D) www.youroil.net for Oil Analysis and Weber Parts Test Results http://members.rennlist.com/oil Weber Carb Info http://members.rennlist.com/webercarbs Porsche Road Test http://members.rennlist.com/roadtest/ . - Original Message - From: "Peter Frederick" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mercedes Discussion List" Sent: Sunday, July 09, 2006 10:53 AM Subject: Re: [MBZ] ABS Flush Well, it might activate the actuators, but the fluid doesn't actually circulate much. [MBZ] ABS Flush
Howdy - FYI - Was reading the "W124 Bible" about the ABS system and they suggest finding a stretch of road - preferably wet to reduce effort - and get on the brakes hard enough to make the ABS work - not violently, but enough to make the light flash. This will force fresh brake fluid through the ABS part of the brake system and help keep it working better/longer. It sounds like something good to do - as soon as we get a rain storm I plan to take it out and do as suggested. If the brake fluid is flushed every 2 years as it's supposed to be, this may not be necessary (??) - but it sounds like an easy way to force fresh fluid thru the ABS components - HTH's Larry T (67 MGB, 74 911, 78 240D, 91 300D) www.youroil.net for Oil Analysis and Weber Parts Test Results http://members.rennlist.com/oil Weber Carb Info http://members.rennlist.com/webercarbs Porsche Road Test http://members.rennlist.com/roadtest/ .
