Yup, evacuate the system, bring to full vacuum, then inject as much fairy
dust as you can get your hands on. That crap is magical! Also heard it can
take you back in time.

Re: [MBZ] AC recharge

2017-05-11 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
You can buy the reseal kits on eBay for about $22.00 for the Nippondenso. I’ve
done a couple of them so far and they’re easy-peasy. It takes about 30 minutes
to disassemble, replace the seal and O rings and reassemble. I did the one in
my 350SDL, which was the original MB compressor, about a year ago and it’s
still making ice cubes. With R134a I get vent temperatures in the mid 40s at
regular speeds but it will drop off to maybe 55F-60F while i’m sitting for a
long traffic light. That’s due to the inefficiency of R134a in an R12 system.
Some day I might upgrade my condenser to a triple pass, which should make it
blow cold consistently.

You will be able to tell if it has been converted as the fitting are screw on
for R12. Both cars were manufactured with R12, but if they have been serviced
since about 1995 they have been switched to R134a or one of the hydrocarbon
refrigerants.

But you really want to do the proper testing and fix the leaks.

Different compressors in the two cars, the SD uses an ac/delco R4, I think, the
SDL uses a Nippondenso. Leaks on the SDL are typically the shaft seal or the
o-rings on the hose mainfold (both sets) especially the high side under the top
plate. Not a huge deal to fix.

[MBZ] AC recharge

2017-05-10 Thread clay via Mercedes
I am thinking I hit the lottery with my w126 diesels. They both seem to want
to make cold happen when I adjust the temp. The SDL really tries to make cool
air and does the high speed fan as well as the lower fan speed. The SD is at
least trying to blow something, but does not do high fan in response to temp
requests.

The FLAPS has cold in a can, but I am not sure this is a good way to make it
cold. Should I not evacuate the system with a massive vacuum pump, test if for
days on end, and then inject magical cold faery dust? I do not even know if
it uses R 134.
