Yep, 28-30mpg, 0-60 in 23s on my watch.

Gallon of petrol solved that. Oddly, fuel would solidify about the time the
cabin heat was just becoming noticeable.

I used to have to do that on my Toyota truck, eventually put in a
thermostat that was 10 degrees hotter and that solved it.

I figured one might be better than others. Perhaps this is a new market uncle

For the Frankenheap, only Boo-berry seemed to work properly.

IIRC, I blocked off at least half of the radiator in the W115s in the
winter. I found that a cereal box opened up was the right size.

I routinely blocked off the entire radiator in the W115 200D Frankenheap using
a square of cardboard.
Kept it that way most of the winter. (It was my winter beater with a
Weird, I've never had trouble with our '03, even down to -10f. I'm sure if have
heard of it if Angie didn't have heat...

I don't think "toasty" is in the cards for an '04 Golf TDI, they are well known
for lack of winter heat. Almost as bad as a Geo Metro in Canada, a buddy of
mine had one and the temp gauge would slowly drift down on the highway in the
winter.
Driving if 4th may help, but that tends to kill
Nice! I need to get off my rear end and fix the no-start problem on my '95
wagon.
Warm air quickly: I plug in the block heater on a timer, so it starts heating
the coolant at least 30 minutes before I start driving. Nice toasty air within
a few minutes if not instantly.

Mostly short trips in the Golf? Angie's '03 makes plenty of heat but not for
the first couple miles. My '15 makes excellent heat and pretty quick but I
think its got the extra injector running to heat the engine up faster. Fuel
economy suffers in the winter, even worse than you'd otherwise
Always nice to solve a problem. Brightens my whole day.

At long last I replaced the coil in the TE, wanted to some time back but my
friend Hans talked me out of it, he suspected fuel injectors instead to account
for the rough idle and other assorted ills, including difficulty setting the
mixture on the KE-Jet.
Popped it in, charged the battery
