I was just wondering because I want to put a bigger alternator in 
and the bolt version doesn't fit over it quite right because it's 
a bit more extended toward the right side.


Still $150 is a bit much. I may just go ahead and beat one one 
with a hammer till it fits right. I do have extras of them anyway.

for the one 616 had had with it, it was already ruined.  I threw it away 
and put on a salvaged tensioning bolt system from a junker.

manage to ruin the tensioning bolt too.

The OM603 serpentine belt tensioner and shock cost less, but I'll bet they 
don't last as long.

Worth noting that these often wear out because people don't loosen the pivot 
bolts on the alternator and on the rack itself. This causes excessive 
strain/wear on the teeth and eventual failure. Also helps to use a pry bar, 
which should be no problem on a W123 240D... lots of room in there.
