Thanks for that feedback, I read the tech piece some years ago, interesting
to learn there is still interest in developing the resource.
Huge potential energy resource, just no current way to exploit it.

Where it has been snowing the past five days.

in fact, the indigenous peeps would burn the prairie, if lightning
didn't do it for them. Established oak trees and longleaf pines could
survive the inferno if the fires occurred regularly.  it is the
ecosystem of the prairie.   The fires keep trees from growing.

We can, however, easily handle a concentration of CO2 much higher than
you might think.

>From https://www.nap.edu/read/11170/chapter/5#47 :

Submarine crew are reported to be the major source of CO2 on board
submarines (Crawl 2003). Data collected on nine nuclear-powered
ballistic missile submarines indicate an average CO2 concentration
of 3,500 ppm with a range of 0-10,600 ppm, and data collected on 10
nuclear-powered attack submarines indicate an average CO2
concentration of 4,100 ppm with a range of 300-11,300 ppm (Hagar
2003).

... Thus, the bulk of the data indicate a no-observed-adverse-effect
level (NOAEL) for CO2 of about 28,000 ppm on the basis of the findings
on dyspnea [shortness of breath] and intercostal [between the ribs]
pain.

TABLE 3-3 Emergency and Continuous Exposure
  Guidance Levels for Carbon Dioxide

Exposure Level U.S. Navy Values NRC Recommended Values
  (ppm)(ppm)
Current  Proposed
EEGL
1 h 40,00030,000  25,000
   24 h 40,00015,000  25,000

CEGL
  90 days5,000 7,000   8,000

Abbreviations: CEGL, continuous exposure guidance level;
   EEGL, emergency exposure guidance level;
  h, hour;
NRC, National Research Council;
ppm, parts per million.

So we have a long ways to go before we get to these levels.

The recent greening of our planet can be attributed to higher CO2 levels.

Re: [MBZ] An Article For Earth Day

2019-04-22 Thread Greg Fiorentino via Mercedes
yabbut...it's CH4, not CH; so there is a lot more H2O produced than CO2, and
more energy comes from the H than the C. It produces CO2, but less of it than
from liquid fossil fuels.

Good article - since it agrees with what most of us believe is the case :)
However, this part still bothers me - "methane-powered gasoline engines or
hydrogen motors could cut CO2 emissions by a third and possibly eliminate
the need for diesel motors." How can you burn methane with air and not
produce CO2?
CH + O2 = CO2 + H2O - am I right?

The CO2 part is farcical anyway.   Plants NEED co2.   More co2 = more
plant growth.  More plant growth = less co2.   It is a self stabilizing
system.

if the yourpeens want mo' clean, they should import liquid CNG from the
US of A.  It burns cleaner than Benzin or Diesel fool.
