Hey I'm as frugal as the next guy, but Rusty has new pedals for next
to nothing. $11.00 or so if I recall correctly. Why chance it, get a
new one... More Egg nog over here and double up on the brady please!

Well, I must have been lucky then - my 1951 VW bug only broke the
throttle cable. I did keep the pedal hinge oiled though - in case it
helped me go faster :-). the 1200cc engine did more good than the
oiled pedal though.

Bottom line is that the accelerator pedal itself had broken. It's a
plastic part, is over 18 years old, and has been driven over 290,000
miles, but the pedal broke!
Given that it _is_ plastic, and right out where you can even
_step_ all over it, it's surprising that more of them don't break.

Did you tell daughter that once the pedal is sitting flat on the
floor, she can't make it go any faster by shoving it through the floor?

You must've never owned an aircooled VW--very common problem after a
bout with rustworm infestation, especially the early Type IIs.

Yeah, the one on my Type II had broken loose at the hinge and been
repaired, by a previous owner. I've also heard of the cable attachment

The accelerator pedal in the SDL suddenly became very hard to push
while a daughter was driving it. Afterhearing about Regina's broken
linkage, and Kaleb driving the car home at WOT, I thought it best to
ground the car till I could figure out what was wrong.
I got a chance to look at it this after
