[MBZ] Anybody watch Mythbusters? Just tested WVO in SD
I have gotten to really like this show on Discovery channel. Now that this channel is included in my limited basic cable package. They just were testing fuel mileage myths. They tested several wacky contraptions they found - mostly on the net - that were supposed to improve MPG. I think only one worked and improved 6%. But later they tested the myth that a diesel can run on discarded cooking oil. They used an SD. They just filtered it (wish they told us how) and ran it out of a translucent plastic jug they mounted up by the windshield. They were quite surprised that with no car modifications it could run the car. It got 30 mpg at a steady 35 mph - compared to 33 mpg with dino. Also, it's amazing to me that sometimes automotive knowledge can be so separate from other engineering knowledge. These are two very knowledgeable guys in lots of different areas of engineering, but neither of them could find the fuel line on a couple of different cars. Also: Kaleb: just a note to let you know that somehow I seem to have been removed from the biodiesel list. What should I do to rectify this? Yes but are they really knowledable or just a couple of actors playing the part? It's one thing to read a script but quite another to know something about what goes on under the bonnet of a car. I've been running 100% WVO in my 87SDL since April with no mods whatsoever to the car. There is a bit of hesitation when you accelerate until it gets warmed up. More so on cold mornings. -Dave Walton On 7/12/07, Zoltan Finks [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I have gotten to really like this show on Discovery channel. Yeah but we are not talking about rebuilding a MB gearbox, just finding the fuel pipe. If you have a basic understanding of how a car gets it's fuel you should be able to work out which is the feed pipe and which is the return line. Anyway they seem like nice fellas, if they had the big ego thing happening they would have edited out the part about them standing there looking for a fuel line. - Original Message - From: John Robbins [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Thursday, July 12, 2007 10:32 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] Anybody watch Mythbusters? Re: [MBZ] Anybody watch Mythbusters? Just tested WVO in SD
WOW, 100% vegoil without pre-heating? You're REALLY asking for trouble. I give you 10,000 miles at MAX before you have injection pump, injectors, pre-chamber, or ring problems. There are major engine problems running 100% vegoil when it's preheated to 150F or higher, let alone running it at ambient temps Once you start having these problems, Italian Tuneup's won't even help. The MB/Bosch injection system is pretty well bullet proof, but it cannot handle the missile you've launched. -- Luther KB5QHUAlma, Ark '87 300SDL (271,xxx mi) needs head '83 300SD (246,645 mi) SOLD! Re: [MBZ] Anybody watch Mythbusters? Just tested WVO in SD
Actually, the red hair guy was ... or at leas an aspiring actor way back. At one time they showed an old clip of him in one of the old Charmin toilet paper commercials, he was the young shop clerk working in Mr Whipple's store in the ' please don't squeeze the Charmin' commercial...with a lot more hair. That aside, they do an incredible job of trying to piece these things together, even if they aren't up to snuff for the purists in any given episode, and they're loads of fun to watch. ---Robert John Robbins wrote: They also weren't actors in their work before Mythbusters... ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

That guy couldn't find his way out of a paper sack with a sawzall. The few times I've seen that guys show, I've noticed the annoyance on the faces of the people he was supposedly helping while they were quietly covering for his screwing up. -Robert Jeff Zedic wrote: I think the best example of an expert that couldn't really do stuff is Bob Vila.
