Re: [MBZ] Anyone Have Carfax?
Remember that Toyota is poised to surpass GM as the largest automaker on the planet. Thats Toyota, Lexus and Scion vs Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, Hummer, Saab, and Saturn. Wasn't it also the crazy chairman of Toyota (could have been Honda) that said to save GM they'd raise prices on each car... Also lets point out that Toyota makes money, Ford doesn't... -Curt Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2006 18:50:34 -0700 From: John M McIntosh <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [MBZ] Anyone Have Carfax? Absolutely. Speaking of which, anybody want an '88 GMC 1500 4x4 350ci v8 single cab pretty much all the options for that year. 9x,xxx miles, some body rust, broken CV in the front end, runs great $500? Re: [MBZ] Anyone Have Carfax?
Ain't that the truth. My '88 GMC S15 2.8l was underpowered on the highway but regularly turned in 25mpg and was great in the woods. My wife is going from a 3 mile commute to about 15 miles and I'm a bit concerned about her spending everything she makes in fuel (well not that bad but you get the idea). She drives my Dakota which does around 18mpg. Theory 1 has me making my own frankenheap but my 240D only averaged around 28mpg which would barely pay for the added insurance and fees although it'd be handy to have a 3rd car. The other idea is to buy a new vehicle, something small that gets better mileage. Gotta be 4wd so I can tow my snowmobile trailers and go to camp. Best thing I've found so far is a Suzuki Vitara or Chevy Tracker 2 door convertable. Those are rated for 26mpg on the highway which is okay but I'm not sure its better enough to make it worth buying another vehicle while my Dakota still has plenty of miles in it... -Curt Date: Wed, 2 Aug 2006 10:24:45 -0400 From: "Mike Canfield" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [MBZ] Anyone Have Carfax? That's what I am saying...Seems if they can get that out of a pickup then it should be relatively easy in the SUV's.Not so I guess. Sure! Put a Cummins 6B in it and it will. The cost increment is about $4k, IIRC, and it weighs 1000# so the front end needs a bit of beefing up. -- Jim

Funny things Dakotas. My '96 Dakota v8 club cab will just nudge 20mpg if I really baby it on the highway. Worst I ever did was 8mpg towing a 4400# tractor. Agreed. I used to get 23 with my 350/350 combo in an 81 Chebbie pickup with a carb...A quadrajunk at that. Just don't understand why, with all of the EFI and such that all cars can't get at least 20. They average around 14 or 15 in town driving and 18-19 highway. I get near that with my 7100# conversion van. 15 at 55MPH pulling a 36 foot camper actually.
