itself as a sudden complete loss of all forward gears, it doesn't
necessarily have to be that drastic.

1990 350 SDL with 246,000 MIles. Fluid and filter changed every 45K.
Getting a little tempermental when really cold outside last winter (0 to 10
degrees), but otherwise, fine.

Have always understood that the number of shifts made goes along way
to determine the lifespan. 400K miles on the highway is going to have
a longer life than a car driven in traffic most of the time with many
shifts per mile. Every shift made is a wear item on the bands, etc.
