Dave M. posted at some point a link to a Japanese (?) site selling
non-open diffs of some kind for the 201 and 124. I think they were
Torsens and fairly reasonably priced. My experience with used LSDs,
whether already in a car or acquired at a PnP or similar, has not been
good---after a while they all need to be rebuilt by a specialist for
$$$, so you might as well just buy new.

Hey, didn't the AMG Hammer come with a Torsen diff? How'd they do it?
Yeah, I know, extensive hand-fabbing that wouldn't be worth the time
and effort to duplicate...

And no Torsens, not even in the 2.3-16v or 500E.

and Evolution II had.

Not bloody likely, but hey, I've been wondering the same thing about
grafting one of the locking diffs from an Audi Quattro, as well. You could
theoretically fabricate the mounts, but I doubt the CV and driveline flanges
would be adaptable. And then there's the whole thing about comparable final
drive ratios...oh well. I can't for the life of me figure out why MB
produced so few LSD setups, back in the day. Fools

[MBZ] BMW 5 series suregrip diff on an MB?

2008-02-27 Thread Christopher McCann
Will a 5 series (80's vintage) BMW sure-grip differential fit any of our cars,
particularly my '85 300SD...

Friend found one at the PNP and I at least thought it worth asking, although I
realize it's not likely. (But, hey, the Reutter oil caps are interchangeable).

Thanks,

Chris
