Re: [MBZ] Becker radio codes

2021-06-17 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
The guy at the parts counter is probably looking up the VMI on his computer by
searching the radio serial number field, I presume. Never asked if it’s
searchable by the different fields in the document - I’ll ask next time I’m
over there. It may also be searchable by the build sheet in the EPC, possibly.
Still easiest way to get it is with the last 8 of the VIN.

I must have a good dealer then. I copy the serial number for the radio (or
maybe show the radio) and the guy at the parts counter gives me the code. I
must look honest.

Re: [MBZ] Becker radio codes

2021-06-17 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Uh, yes it does. The code is in the VMI which is referenced by the VIN. You
give the dealer the VIN, they look up the VMI, which has the factory supplied
radio code in it.

That goes back well into the 1980s.

I’ve pasted a screen shot below of the VMI for my former 1990 350SDL’s VMI with
the radio code and serial number in it. As my posts with attachments typically
get stripped, it probably won’t show up, but I”m more than willing to forward
it to anyone who questions this.

[MBZ] Becker radio and Hirschmann antenna query

2009-11-17 Thread glenn brown

Is there anyone on the list who has experienced the problem I'm having with the
Becker Grand Prix radio and Hirschmann antenna in my '84 300D . . . explanation
follows: While my car was at the fabricators and paint shop for some rust
elimination, I had the antenna disassembled and just hangin' in the trunk. I
got a buzzing sound (Note: It's a buzz, buzz, buzz sound and seems to repeat
22X and then there's a slight pause and it starts another 22X buzz, buzz, buzz
sequence) from the radio on reassembling everything. Upon trying to track down
what was causing the buzz, I haven't been able to find any connection or wire
responsible and I even resoldered the small PCB within the Hirschmann
retractable antenna casing. The extension/retraction function of the antenna
stopped working (Note: This occurred prior to resoldering the PCB). I had the
bloody thing working without the buzz for a couple days as it just seemed to go
together without the buzz, but I disassembled the Hirschmann antenna case again
today to see if I could find out why the extension/retraction function stopped
working. I thought possibly this might have been caused by turning the
ignition switch on/off so many times when I was trying to figure out the
buzzing that the antenna had possibly gotten in a reverse sequence so I
retracted the antenna via hand rotating the little drive wheel within the
housing but this hasn't helped cure the extension/retraction function of the
antenna either and now the bloody buzz is back again and I can't seem to get
rid of it. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? TIA.

This has the circuit board and the belt? Or just the cam
and switches? The belt-driven one has electronics, and if
they go south it could cause who knows what kind of crud.
I tried to fix one once, it was highly unsuccessful.

Disassemble sufficiently to gain access to the 12V grain-of-wheat

You can get a little FM transmitter too for the pod that will work sorta
OK on any radio that doesn't have an input. $30 at El Mercado de Wal.
You can buy the male-male cable too for a dollar or two.

I bought a 16MB player yesterday for $6 at the surplus electronics shop,
I am going to hack it to do some other things with it.

Other way is to find the adapter in the back of the radio for aux and

When I recently replaced the radio in my 300TD, (the Becker was looonnng
gone), I went down to WalMart and got a pretty nice little Sony unit for
$89.95, AM/FM/CD. I suppose the sound quality is not as good as the high
end models, but then again, I'm driving a 21 year old car that had a fair
amount of road noise BEFORE it got real old. New stereo has an aux jack on
the front for connecting to the IPOD. SWMBO is taking me to the mall this
afternoon to get me an IPOD for my birthday, so I'll check it out and let ya
know. Guess I'll start doing the podcast thing

OBTW...turned over 290K this week, filled up the tank and got 26 MPG. Life
is good.

My wife's company had one of those that they used instead of muzak. They
decided it was obsolete last week and tried to give it away to the
employees...you shoulda heard the howls of derision from the Ipod crowd
about anything that was so low tech... I personally would like to have had
it, but the wife (SWMBO) vetoed another electronic relic...and this one

In that case buy a cheap 5 tray CD changer and plug it in. I doubt if
she could really tell the difference among various-priced options,
unless you have some awesome speakers and amps. The Sony thing that
holds a couple hundred I think is like $300, not a bad price if you want
all of them available without having to reload the thing.

What they do is provide an aux jack on the back that is wired into
the input from the cassette player.
As mentioned you could get a fm adaptor, but I'll point out some
other choices

a) Some xm radio receivers have transmitters and provide aux-in so
you can get xm radio and ipod input then transmit via FM to the becker.

b) Replace the entire setup with something else, that provides xm
radio, mp3 cd, full ipod integration to show song etc and control
ipod from radio

Lastly I'll note some fm adaptors let you pick transmission
frequencies across the spectrum, versus only providing only 6 presets
or something.

Is this going to be a discussion list or an on-line order form for Kaleb's

Is it asking too much, for people to send direct messages to Kaleb when they
want parts? This is like the tenth today.

Hi, Kaleb. As per you ad-line about the best used MB parts anywhere, I need
a Becker radio suitable for an 85 300TD. The one that I have flattens the
battery, and only plays a subdued crackle and hiss.
What have you and how much?

Re: [MBZ] Becker Radio

2005-06-14 Thread Steve MacSween
Can you do engraving on a climate control servo? That would be good.

The comment was directed to King Okie Parts, dude, not you. Kleb and me go
way back. I knew him when he was only the Prince of Okie Parts.

Anyway, the suggestion that Mercedes should cover failures on 13-yr-old
radiators was way funnier.
