[MBZ] Blaupunkt

2020-06-28 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
Supposedly on clearance for $35, but it's regular ($50) price or out of
stock near me.

I assume Blaupunkt = Germasian/Chinesium these days?
$50 for a 7" touchscreen indash with speakers included doesn't sound like
the Blaupunkt I remember.

yes, the real Blaupunkt died maybe 20 yrs ago.  Someone picked up the
brand, and made OK radios, but not real Blaupunkt radios.   Looks like
maybe the brand was sold off again.   Plenty here, but $50.   It showed
$15 at Slidell, LA, but none in stock.

Is this another brand that got sold off to the Chinese?

$25 on clearance at some WalMart stores.
Appears to be $50 regular price so it might be junk.

Re: [MBZ] BLAUPUNKT REPAIR Was: Hirschmann replacement

2010-01-31 Thread LarryT
Thx Guys - several offered suggestions - I know it was unlikely I would find
a easy fix but as suggested, I'll open it and look for burn marks. You you
say, can't hurt anything - it's a paperweight at the moment.

Have a great Sunday! BTW, if you are knee deep in snow as we are, be
careful in that stuff and don't overdo the shoveling - many people have
heart problems trying to do too much. Wouldn't want to hear someone had to
visit the ER!

Also, the blown Blaupunkt is not from my W124 - it has a Becker Gran Prix
which has been great. I never thought they were worth the very high price
they wanted - at one time seems I recall a $1600 replacement cost for them.
But it is a very nice radio/cassette player - and with the Alpine CD changer
in the trunk it's a great system. I was unhappy with the way MB broke the
stereo into 3 (or 4 counting the CD changer) with the Amp and tuner in the
truck - a it makes modifying the system difficult. but while it's working
it's excellent.

OK - no more rambling -

Subject: [MBZ] BLAUPUNKT REPAIR Was: Hirschmann replacement

I had an older blaupuunkt (from the 60s) and it was a fantastic radio. It
would blow the power transistor attached to the back of the case. I found
the dad of a friend was quite an electronics guy. I got a schematic from
somewhere, and took it to him and he fixed it twice. There are a few
people around who can fix component level stuff.

Jaime K or Jim C on this list may have some ideas. Going to a local ham
radio club may yield a lead.

The only other radios I had that impressed me is the becker in the SDLs
and a cheap 70s model am/fm from radio shack. The balupunkt and the RS
would pull stations from all over, and the Becker has nice sound quality
with the speakers in the SDL. When I replaced the single dash speaker
with two rear speakers with the Blaupunkt, it sounded pretty good too, for
the time.

Open the case and look for what let the smoke out. I was able to diagnose
the Blaupunkt that way, because there was an obvious burn between one
transistor lead and the case.

Speaking of radios - I have a Blaupunkt (Reno IIRC) that someone (not me),
managed to let the German smoke escape/ I suspect he hooked it up
reverse polarity or had power going to someplace it didn't belong.

Would it be possible to open it up and find the part that's blown and
repair it? I really like this radio hope I can remove the damaged
component - if that's possible. Anyone know where and what I should look
for??
