thus the 30 AMP fuse for the blower, mounted on the fender as a refit

Lord the e420's electrical gremlins are getting me down. It limps on the
nanny, but never with me or the mechanic. So we have no idea why because
the codes clear every time she restarts it or shuts it down. I will have
her drive straight to the mechanic next time so he can hook it up.

Then the 123 wagon decides to melt its AC fuse holder and fuse right
through the fuse block. I thought fuses were supposed to prevent this type
of behavior? It was even a shiny new copper one. We had a hot spell and the
nanny has a way of making cars not work. I figured the 123 is the most
robust thing we have, so I put her in that. She likes her AC, that's for
sure. The control unit is only 5 years old or so. AC was working like a
champ for me on Thursday and the next day no blow. I got in it on Friday
and thought someone had been smoking in it, but she is a 7th day Adventist
and they dont go in for that sort of thing. Opened it up to replace the
fuse today and holy Toledo it looked like a little blue torpedo boring into
the melted goo. I guess I need a new fuse block now. And who knows what
else.

Thanks all. I found a new old stock one in Houston. Now just need to order
the external fuse kit.

I can't believe I drove it this long without having this problem, or even
knowing about this problem. I used the AC lots in DC; less here so it is
ironic.

Re: [MBZ] Cahrs

2019-07-29 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
On the E420, perhaps you could research which systems / components are not
monitored, and then see how they could be tested. Perhaps it will be obvious
just by the nature of the component if it is a potential cause. For instance,
I doubt the exhaust system would cause an intermittent fault, but perhaps an
air leak into the fuel lines.

There is a kit that Mercedes sells with a strip fuse and the related wires to
relocate that fuse out of the fuse box for just the reason you’re experiencing.
The 16 amp fuses weren’t adequate, so they went to a strip fuse that was 30A, I
believe. The kit was around $25 from the dealer.

I had one of those kits for the 300D I owned a few years ago, but for the life
of me I can’t find the part number for it.

Maybe someone here has the number?
