Re: [MBZ] Car Hunt - W210 E320

2017-06-19 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Exactly. I contacted the seller and addressed his pricing. He admitted that
he was “asking high” so he “had room to negotiate.” I pointed out that pricing
his car outrageously high would drive off a lot o potential buyers up front.
He had started out at $8000, so he lowered his asking price to $7700.

Some concession.

I may go look at it later this week if I have time. There are a couple other
prospects I’m considering, and I’m also considering just sitting out for a
month or so before I get serious. Not sure what I’m going to do….

The W124 with the OM606 isn't bad, but I'm not sure I would use the adjective
"peppy" describing it. Using that as a reference, the W210 is probably similar

Yeah, but given the choice if I went diesel I would rather have a turbo. There
are a couple 97 non-turbos in the local market, but people seem to think
they're made of some sort of precious metal. I talked to this seller last week:

https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/6173396562.html

It sounds like a really nice car - one owner, service records, 108k on the
clock, etc., etc., but $7700??? I don't see how. Maybe, just maybe I could see
$5k. But not $7700. Funny thing, he agreed with me, but he still wants that
price.

Or am I being unrealistic? I don't see him getting that kind of money for this
car, especially since it's a bare bones model, too - it even has MBTex, not
leather as he describes in the ad (I pulled the data card on it.)

Re: [MBZ] Car Hunt - W210 E320

2017-06-19 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
A few basic comments on the model years:
2wd 210 sedans made from 1996-2002. Wagons 1998-2003, 4matic 1998-up. 2003
wagons seem to be rare, I don't think they were made for a full year.

Diesels (OM606) in USA from 1996-1999, turbocharged/intercooled 98-99.
I guess the ultimate diesel would be a 99 with optional ESP.

Facelift in 2000 model year included lowering the suspension and putting turn
signals in the side view mirror housings. So, for deep snow, 1998-99 4Matic is
probably the best, other than that facelifted versions are good.

The later the year, the more likely to have COMAND.

ESP was optional in 1999, may have been available in 1998, standard equipment
from 2000 onward.

I can't remember when the five speed electronic transmission was introduced,
maybe 1997? I think they eliminated the torque converter drain plug mid year in
1999, my 99 wagon has it.
