When I got my first car '66 Dodge Charger I used a product called glass
wax.
I bought it at a grocery store. The same thing is being sold as Gel Gloss.

dishwashing soap and such things.. apply with a green scrub pad / sponge
like you wash dishes with by hand.
It will not scratch your windshield but will remove things like tree sap,
city crud [don't know what else to call it] salt

Soft Scrub on a sponge/green scrubber is your answer. It will cling to the
glass or the sponge until you wipe it off with clean water and paper
towel... How you reach the hard to reach areas . hmmm ... Yoga classes?
Try rigging up a sponge on a stick arrangement, perhaps.. a bath squeege
