At a command line prompt, I typed "units" and entered what I wanted to

Aha! So it is N-M and not ft-lb!

That would be 18.4 ft-lb and 25.8 ft-lb.

then 35 Nm to get good sealing.

2010-03-13 Thread John Reames
Hmm. Does this help: http://mercedes.thatchermathias.com/w123CD2/Program/Engine/615/07-200.pdf
 ?

It also has some 616 and 617 stuff near the end. The M pumps have the
DV's going directly into aluminium, and are the tender ones that will
stick and warp. The MW pumps are the heavier-duty ones where there is
a steel subassembly for each cylinder. Each DV screws into a steel
unit and two nuts secure each unit to studs in the pump body. (Do not
mess with the two nuts securing the unit to the pump body; they affect
calibration and can only be set properly on a test bench.)

Anyhow, that doc should have all the procedures... (google with
PES5M55C320RS108 got that document...)

I was under the impression that the euros had the M pump, similar to
the M pumps on the 60x engines here, while the US 617 engines had the
MW.

The injection pump on our '82 240D/3.0 with an '84 Euro engine has the
splined injectors. (BTW, do not waste your money buying the Sir Tools
tools for them; their tools are junk.)

I thought the tag on it said it's a MW pump, but the tag (stamping
into

the aluminum, actually) reads,

 PES5M55C320RS108-1
   011 35253243
   0 400 075 991
 617 070 4301 ER 0002

According to the Service Manual, Engines 615, 616, 617.91, page
07.1-001,

it's an M/RSF.

Does this take the multi-step torque procedure?

Re: [MBZ] Delivery valve torque

2010-03-12 Thread Dillon, Meade M CIV SPAWARSYSCEN-ATLANTIC, 53310
Is there a difference in torque procedure between the injection pumps
with o-rings in the DV and those without? On my '85 300TD with
non-turbo engine, DV's used O-rings, and the 30-30-35 procedure was
correct.

That's the om60x procedure. The 617 uses 50Nm in one step IIRC.

Not sure about a '74; for the OM61x engines (as well as later engines) the
procedure is torque to 30Nm, release, 30Nm, release, then 30+5Nm.
