18 1/2"- 18 3/4" from the ground to the center of the ball. I'd probably make
it 19" to compensate for tongue weight if it doesn't have self leveling
suspension.

Yeah, that’s similar to what I had for the previous ML500 and it did the job
the few times I used it.

Yeah, I’ll go with a 2” ball since that’s pretty much standard. I just was’t
suer if there was a “swwet spot” for receiver height that I should go for.

No, and yes. So, you're a bit screwed. You have to have SOME idea of
what you'd tow before you know what kind of hitch to put in the receiver.
The trailer should end up towing level when you're done.

I use the ones that drop an inch or two then the ball bolts in. 2” balls are
pretty much standard. The receiver isn’t that high off the ground so you won’t
need one that adjusts or drops down very far.
