Yeah, I know they’re regional, but not national. I was looking once when I was
planning a trip in case there were issues.

That sounds like Tires Plus, a regional tire store chain around FL and the
southeast. I’m sure each one can be different, but the one by my house was
great for years. They even knew about spreader bars for alignments on our cars!
The guy that ran the one by me was a former Michelin rep, and very good at
helping you find the right tire for the application rather than worrying about
selling you the ones they make the most profit off of. They would bust old
tires off wheels I bought and not charge me.

In general they were very customer-oriented, which was nice. I could send Mrs.
Dan there with a car and they wouldn’t rip her off.

brick and mortar Discount Tire was always my go to because they had excellent
customer service for many, many years. Whenever I’d add a vehicle to the stable
all I’d have to do is let them know and they’d add it to my account as if I
bought tire there for it. Now to do it they want to charge me $165. Sadly,
their customer services deteriorated over the last, I’d say, three or four

I liked them because they were all over out here in the west. Anytime you had a
tire issue it was super convenient and easy to get it resolved.

I have no idea just what all they did. Probably would not take the
ED there. Simple laser alignment from what I saw. They futzed with
it for a while then told me the bushings were all shot, if I got that
fixed they would redo the work for free. I did not have the full set
of bushings and other stuff, so kept it with the new tie rods. It
has been great for two years so far, and compared to before I am
really happy. Stays straight ahead instead of wandering like a drunk.

Well, that's where Brian ought to go then. I've always had flats
fixed there for free and have bought quite a few tires from them as

aren't bad either, and the service in my experience is as a rule
honest and quick. I wouldn't trust them to do an alignment or
suspension work on a Benz, but for lesser cars I would. They also, at
least when I've watched, know how to correctly torque the lug bolts.
(Unlike Firestone when I took my Isuzu there, even though I
specifically requested hand-torquing. The nuts were air-wrenched on

cheater bar and no-name socket in the process. Replaced the latter

Les and his boys did the alignment for Gump. Worth the few dollars
just to get her to stop drifting. She needs a full front end re-
bushing, but that will be a few miles down the road when I have
collected all the rubber bits. Will have oldest boy do the job with
his uncle so that he learns how to work on the car he will be driving.

a tire company that does what they say they will do - which is directly
  opposite my
experience with almost all others. I won't buy tires anywhere else, or
  haven't for a while.
They are a few dollars lower priced than Sam's or WalMart compared on an
  equal basis.

The downside is you have to go there and wait to be served at the counter.
  Then you
have to wait for the work to be done. It can take a while. Bring a book.
  Alternatively,
change the flat and leave the tire and wheel for repair. Then you have to
  go there and
wait to be served again. But they do what they say they will. That is
  refreshing to me.

some stores in SW Washington but I'm not sure about up north where

Shoot, I would have taken mine in there to have it fixed. At
Firestone, I believe the repair was something like $20 or so.

Les Schwab is located throught OR, WA, ID and in northern CA and NV. In my
experience good to do business, and according to my brother good to work
for.

[MBZ] Discount Tire

2007-11-05 Thread Rich Thomas
I will second his report on DT -- a good company to deal with. I took a
Benz tire over there when it got a nail, dropped it off, came back an
hour later, it was done and no charge. I about fell over. The guy was
very nice too and seemed happy to have done that. I kept waiting to
find the catch, but it was just a courtesy service they provide, and
their prices are competitive too.

 Hello Brian

In Texas and I think most of the southwest we have Discount Tire Company
 (may also be
called America's Tire Company), who changes/fixes flats free including
 rebalancing even
on tires they didn't sell. They will charge you to mount a tire they
 didn't sell: cost me $5
recently. Maybe you have them convenient to you.

They want you to remember them and maybe buy tires from them. I can
 testify they are
a tire company that does what they say they will do - which is directly
 opposite my
experience with almost all others. I won't buy tires anywhere else, or
 haven't for a while.
They are a few dollars lower priced than Sam's or WalMart compared on an
 equal basis.

 Then you
have to wait for the work to be done. It can take a while. Bring a book.
 Alternatively,

 go there and
wait to be served again. But they do what they say they will. That is
 refreshing to me.
