Re: [MBZ] Engine Swap Question
convincing people a K&N is an improvement over all other intake filters. If it were only true. I fell for the hype and bought one for my parents' '99 Suburban and '01 PT Cruiser, but found out later how damaging they can be by letting huge amounts of dirt into the engine. The Cruiser had 14Kmi on it, and needed an engine flush (according to the dealer). I took the K&N outta there and reinstalled the stock paper filter. i'll never buy another one of those, even for my RC car! I used a chrome K&N crankcase breather filter on one of my cars since it fit just right on the carb as an air filter. oil-soaked Foam filters and plastic mesh screen work the best for them. Because I remember having them in my VWs and they always cleaned the air very nicely. I never had dirt in the carb or intake till someone convinced me that I needed to go to a K&N. I got rid of that after one month, you wouldn't believe the amount of dirt that got through that thing. I would so much love to have an oil bath air filter on my 83 300D. Does anyone know if that is possible and where would I get one? Manfred Date: Sat, 2 Feb 2008 19:39:47 -0800 From: Peter Frederick <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [MBZ] Engine Swap Question To: Mercedes Discussion List Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed Check, you may not be able to change the oil filter without removing the engine.. Also check for interferences around the filter housing. I believe the intakes will interchange, so you can stay with the W123 filter system (nicer than an oil bath, and there is an oil separator on there). It's the other way that's a huge problem (ON616 into a W115 chassis) -- the oil filter fits in the same space as the fender brace. You nailed the biggest hurdle to such a swap; the oil filter housing. I believe the housing will interfere with the crossmember.
