[MBZ] First Casualty of the WI Deer Hunt
Every year someone dies on the first day or two. It's either some old duffer blowing out his heart after he shoots and tracks down his kill, or a guy who trips and discharges his rifle into the back of someone's head. It's funny this year. Re: [MBZ] First Casualty of the WI Deer Hunt
Beats me. I lived there for over eight years and I never heard of the guy. Deer hunting in WI is like a religion. Nothing gets in the way of the devout followers. Miles of rural interstate are literally bumper to bumper the day before the season opens. At Kohler they had a lottery for the employees to see who got to take off work. If not, the plants would shut down for lack of personnel. It's like the first hard freeze. Within a day or two, someone dies from drowning either by walking out on the ice to fish or by trying to run their snowmobile on the ice. Darwin wins every time. It sounds like the typical out-of-shape situation where he exerts himself too much, then rests and dies. A shame. You can't just go out on opening day and sit on your butt the rest of the year. Hunting involves a certain amount of exertion and you need to be at some minimal level of condition for it. When I was at camp 2 weeks ago we walked an average of 5 miles a day.
