Doesn't the 126 have the same type seal as the 201 where its basically glued to
the frame? Seems like that type of seal would fail much less often since its
more protected...

Looked at nice 300SD today, current owner has had it since 99, seems to
have taken good care of it, about 200k miles (he pushed the trip odo
while moving and broke the odo gears). Needs a couple of small things,
but runs very well, very powerful, no smoke. Just replaced the front
glass
Appears to be leaking around the rear window seal, the metal under the
window/deck is a bit rusty and the trunk a bit dampish. The seal
looked pretty good, not rotted or cracked, but I guess it should be
replaced. How big a deal is that?
If there is visible rust anywhere due to this leak,

That could be a problem. (My Chevy pickup had
this problem, big-time. I did a lot of welding to restore the channel
so that I could put in a new seal and glass.)

If there is visible rust anywhere due to this leak, the channel itself
will likely be very rusty, which will only show once the window and
seal are removed.
That's what I've been fearing with my 1983 300sD. It's got rust on the top
of the trunk under the window, but the trunk seal seems to be
On the other hand, I have -- well, had, before I sanded it down and
repainted last summer -- some visible rust around the rear window of my
240D. But nothing has leaked yet. The parcel shelf is, and has been for
several years, absolutely dry.
