Re: [MBZ] Fwd: 190e 2.6 won't start

2007-06-28 Thread Troy Kocher
The only reported issue was once, three weeks ago, when my daughter reported
it wanted to die when she came to a stop, at a traffic light . Later that
evening by the time I got to the car I couldn't reproduce the problem.

Stopped by my mechanic today and described the problem to him and thought I
had flooded it at this point and advised taking out the plugs, getting the
fuel out of they cylinders by cranking till it all is out. Replacing the
plugs with new ones, Replacing the distributor cap & rotor button. When I
described the spark I was seeing from the plugs as 'bright white' he thought
that strange as he typically sees a red spark from the plugs.

Haven't tried smelling the plug hole, but when I removed the plug originally
it was pretty dry. Right now ambient temp here is 90+F & humidity of >80%.

thanks for your continued input. . Hope I don't have to give up and tow it
to the mechanic! :-(

I think I'll try the plugs and rotor next. . seems reasonable. .

Re: [MBZ] Fwd: 190e 2.6 won't start

2007-06-28 Thread Hendrik Riessen
OK we'll go back one step, in order for an engine to run you need three
things; fuel/air mixture, compression and spark. This all has to happen at
the right time obviously.
Right now I am still focusing on fuel because losing compression all of a
sudden is a rare thing, can happen if the valve timing is off.
Losing ignition timing all of a sudden is also pretty rare, can happen if
the dizzy came loose.
When you crank it and then remove a plug, do you get a smell of fuel
happening? If the engine is getting fuel but the timing is off you should be
able to smell (and perhaps see a wet plug) fuel.
Another possibility is that you have lost your cold start circuit, although
unless it is really cold the engine will fire without that circuit.
I take it that the car was running fine before it decided to stop playing
ball?

the injection computer working but will not run without a working ignition
computer.

2007-06-27 Thread Troy Kocher
Well, I think it is worse than originally expected. .

Poured fuel down the air intake, NOTHING not even a chug. .
Removed center two plugs and poured fuel in . . NOTHING not even a chug. .

Checked rotor and when piston #1 @ top dead center rotor button was on that
plug wire.

Watched lifters work thru the oil fill hole, they seem to be moving

Removed the front fuel line and cranked, fuel just hardly dribbled out. .

Removed fuel input to the injector pump and cranked.. FLOODED out..

Does it sound like I've jumped time??

Any help would be appreciated. .

Thanks

2007-06-25 Thread James Zavesky
Had a 1989 E320 wagon with the same problem. Previous owner ran a wire from
the battery to a switch he mounted in the floor by the drivers seat that
then went to the fuel pump. Yanked his Rube Goldberg system out and put a
fuel pump relay in. Car started and ran fine.

To test the fuel pump run a long heavier gauge wire from the battery to the
pump to see if the pump is good. If it is see if it works with the key in
the run position, if not - change the relay. Buy the relay new from Rusty,
getting stuck sucks especially for the daughter.

2007-06-25 Thread Hendrik Riessen
Dump some fuel into the engine to see if it fires, do it carefully and get
advice if you have not done this sort of thing before. The fuel pump relay
is a notorious troublemaker in the 190E's. Can be found behind the battery
and can be taken apart to check soldering, although trying to find a crook
solder is a needle in a haystack job because while the solder may look good
from the top it could have issues underneath. The relay is not cheap new so
make sure it is the culprit, you can get S/H ones but they may be just as
dodgy.

[MBZ] Fwd: 190e 2.6 won't start

2007-06-25 Thread Troy Kocher
Listers,

I need some advise on my daughter's car. Several weeks ago she complained
her 1990 190e 2.6 w/ 7, (I think it's actually about 15, but that's
another story) was not wanting to die when she came to an idle. By the time
I came to inspect it the problem seem to have resolved it's self, and I
couldn't reproduce it. The car has sat for 2wks, and I went out to start
it this morning and it won't start it just cranks. I checked and it appears
I'm getting spark so given last week's issues I'm thinking it's a fuel
problem. What should I look at next? Fuel filter? Pump or pump relay?
What should I evaluate next? This is the first issue I've ever really had
with her car and I'm kinda at a loss. All my previous cars were/are
diesel. I'd appreciate any advise. .

Also does anyone have access to an online parts manual?
