Re: [MBZ] G500 ECU issues
Yeah so far I like my W211 but the complexity is somewhat offputting. Probably won't buy anything newer than a W126 going forward. Re: [MBZ] G500 ECU issues
Totally agree, but even a car as “new” as a W211, or a W210 for that matter, can have similar problems as they use EIS much like the GL500 does. I love my ML550, but I do have reservations about it from that standpoint. That being said, EIS issues are pretty rare, but when they do crop up you’re pretty much screwed unless you go with an aftermarket repair option. I do agree with Jim, though. In another 5-10 years many of these cars will go straight to the crusher when they die, as they will be unrepairable. -D > On Apr 25, 2023, at 3:23 PM, Dwight Giles via Mercedes > wrote: > > yes no new Mercedes for me > . my 2005 w211 is as far as I will stretch. > miss my w124 300D 2.5T > > On Tue, Apr 25, 2023, 6:07 PM Dimitri Seretakis via Mercedes < > mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > >> Yup, even G-wagens are disposable. Dealers don’t want to fool with 1) old cars and 2) cloning electronics (esp with used stuff) because they likely have no one who can do it and can’t guarantee it. Yeah you need to find the exact ECU then send both off to an outfit that can do the cloning. There’s a bunch around that advertise on eBay and have parts and services. Re: [MBZ] G500 ECU issues
Get on ebay and find the exact part number of your old ECU, or car-part.com. After you get the new one, get back on ebay and find a seller doing ECU cloning. You send them the old one and the used one you bought and they clone it and ship it back to you. Here is one I am looking at with this CLK that I think also needs a ECU. https://www.ebay.com/itm/125881244257 On 4/24/2023 7:21 PM, Dimitri Seretakis via Mercedes wrote: My mom’s 2005 G500 was involved in an accident in September. But the dealer claims that they don’t want to do it because they won’t install a used ECU. Is it just this dealer? Will another dealer do it? I believe so. They need to clone the data from the old ECU so it will play nice with everything else. This is especially important for the EIS system, which is why they want those parts all together. [MBZ] G500 ECU issues
My mom’s 2005 G500 was involved in an accident in September. It was fixed at a body shop recommended by the local MB dealer. The body shop was incompetent and didn’t repair it properly- I basically gave up on them doing it right after multiple attempts to correct their mistakes. The car was there for 5 months and at the end they claimed the car would no longer start. They took it to the dealer who claimed that the ecu was destroyed from water intrusion. The dealer claimed that the ecu is NLA and that the car is not repairable as they cannot install used parts. The insurance company then totaled the car. We bought it back and now have to fix it. I’m not sure how to proceed here. I called around for a used ecu and had limited success. One place- ecuteam.com claims that they have one but that I need to send them the old nonfunctional ecu, the ignition switch and the key and then they can program and synchronize the used ecu using the data from the old one.
