One thing I've found thats handy for cleaning out glow plug holes on
some diesels ( hadn't tried it on a benz yet, it would be a bit trickier
than on my diesel ford truck:-) is a .22 cal wire gun brush on a pistol
cleaning rod ( the rod would be a no go on the back couple of holes on
the benz ,
No question, you CAN burn the carbon out (I've been preaching that for
years) but the cylinder MUST be working properly for that to happen! In
a pinch, you can pull the prechamber. A reamer is handy if you want to

I never needed a reamer on my 615, 616, or 617 loop glow plug engines,
just removed the old plug, put the new one in. Same with the 603
egine. We alway drive the cars "hard".

When I first got my '79 wagon with loop-style glow plugs there was

I believe the ones for OM60x engines are attached to a universal joint -
that more than doubles the price (I haven't owned or used on in 20+ years).

If you know how wide it's supposed to be, hammer a glow plug
flat until it's the right width.
