You can now cite it using this information from a very reliable source:

750 kg (1650 lb) unbraked and 1500 kg (3300 lb) braked is permitted
for
a 123 300D.

www.upack.com run by ABF. They bring a small trailer to your house, you
pack the trailer (that's clever) and they bring a truck and deliver the
trailer to your new house. I know several people in the quotation's
department there

Does anyone know which state and which insurance company have the cheapest
auto insurance rates? Just got my insurance bill from Allstate for two old
MBs here in Florida:  $840 for the minimum insurance required by the state;
no comprehensive, etc. included; and that's with one driver for two cars.

Anyone who does not have a job in Florida can have out-of-state tags and
insurance, so it's possible to establish residence in any other state and
still live here. (I'm thinking about living in another state in the summer
anyway.)

Homeowners insurance has gone up, which is understandable because of the
hurricanes, but that kind of auto insurance bill for little besides
liability seems high.

It's about the same as the bill for homeowners insurance on the house
($853).

Also, if anyone is familiar with the insurance/licenscing costs in various
states for motorhomes, that info would be appreciated too since motorhome
living is an option.

You'll find that as liability and lawsuits have gotten more out of control,
more and more places are going to be less likely to rent you a trailer if
you tell them you are going to pull it behind a 300D.

For a cheap[er] way to go, some LTL (less than truckload) shippers will
drop a box at your house for you to pack, then send that box via freight.
Might be cheaper than driving on top of the price of a u-haul.

If you have cash to burn, you could pick up a not too old box van (or even
cargo van if not a lot of stuff), then sell it when you're done moving.

1500kg with brakes, 750kg w/o is the factory rating for a lot of MBz models, I
believe
that includes 123s. Good luck finding a hitch rated over 1500lb or so.

Actually under NAFTA you can take any vehicle across the common border, as
long as it's the correct specification (and the vast majority are now
identical spec in Canada and the USA). You just have to pay any tax that
would have been paid in your country, were your purchasing it there.

US dealers have been 'raiding' Canada for years to get extra stock over
their allocation numbers from the manufacturer. Lots of Cdn dealers were
able to sell high-demand cars (in particular, the New Thunderbird) for full
retail to US dealers, when our dollar was much weaker. Thus we saw hardly
any T-Birds here for the first year they were being sold. Also for years the
midwest used car chains bought up all the Caprices and Suburbans they could
find here in Canada, demand was so good in their areas.

Anyway, back to the story: the problem arises on older cars because the
identical spec rule was not true a decade or so ago... many models either
were slightly different in spec in Cda and the US, or for some reason the
manufacturers supplied different-spec vehicles for crash testing in Canada.
So for example, you could only import a Buick Century wagon to Canada (when
it was under 15 years old) if it had power seats and a driver's side
backrest recliner (apparently both optional), as that was how Transport
Canada crash tested it here. We also adopted the more advanced child tether
seat anchors before the US, so a lot of cars have to be retrofitted for that
when they enter Canada.
