but so far not much to report besides a few little showers.

Just looked at the wind graphics, I think the winds will diminish quite
rapidly over land.  Looks like it is also going to be a bit further
inland so the coastal areas won't get much, maybe some where it heads
offshore again up around OBX.  I'm sure the vast estate will get some

Re: [MBZ] Hurricane Michael

2018-10-10 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
Just looked at the wind graphics, I think the winds will diminish quite
rapidly over land.  Looks like it is also going to be a bit further
inland so the coastal areas won't get much, maybe some where it heads
offshore again up around OBX.  I'm sure the vast estate will get some
blow and a bit of rain, but maybe not too much.

I hope my collection of fine German automobiles will survive.

Can you move them to a safer location temporarly?

On Sunday my buddy and I cleaned our probes, downloaded 2 weeks of
data, and reprogrammed for another 2 weeks. If we get some rain that
will provide some good data. Also downloaded the weather station data,
have that ready to go too.

Looking forward to the results.

Parts of it. There are some pretty heavily populated parts where it’s moving
through.

We’re getting rain bands from the hurricane, but it’s an otherwise typical day
around here. Just glad this went to the west and left us alone.

We (the Low Country) need the rain, and also the cooler weather, so I say
"Bring on Michael!". Upstate SC and NC, not so much.

During the last rain event, I taped over all the seams for the sunroof on
The White Whale, and the result was very little if any water got inside. I
really need to find some time to remove all the sunroof moving parts (panel
and the carrier that does the push / pull / pop-up) so I can clean out and
examine the pan to determine if rust is my issue or just dirt and leaves
clogging up the drain holes.

Oh, and by the way, the storm surge at Tampa is expected to be 0.7 foot,
so it looks like Dan will be minimally affected.

I have been busy with Shirley in the hospital in Albuquerque due to a TIA
or seizure Saturday night. Today I got there early (0915) and was with
her most of the day. We did a lot of watching of The Weather Channel.

One of the things I noticed is that when Hurricane Michael goes across
the Carolinas and exits to the Atlantic Ocean, the counterclockwise
rotation of the winds will force the Atlantic's waters to the coast,
creating a storm surge in South Carolina with on-shore tropical storm
strength winds.

That is particularly concerning to Rich on John's Island, both for the
storm surge flooding his neighborhood and for the wind breaking branches
of his (live oak, I think) trees, causing them to fall down onto his
collection of Mercedes automobiles.
