Had an interesting day today. Took the drivers door latch mechanism (DDLM) out of an 81 300SD. Easy job went real quick. Lots of room. Then I took the broken DDLM out of the 83 300TD. Oh what fun. Had to take the plastic rain cover off the DDLM first, then and only then could I just bearly (no tongue in cheek, would have bitten it off) was I able to squeeze the thing out of there. Left the cover up there and managed to get the one from the SD into place and the cover on and fastened. Lo and behold it works just like new.

After that I took the electric window mechanism out. luckily on the same door so I didn't have to take three door panels off. Not too bad. As a matter of fact downright easy after the latch job. Found the two lead rivets that hold the lift arm to the gear were cut. Took the thing and did a quick spot of weld to hold the arm to the gear and put it back in. Job done and window goes up and down just as pretty as you please.

Bad part about all of this is I had to do it without the help of any libations to the gods. It was just too cold for that. Probably means the whole thing will mess up somehow in just a while. OH well. I'm having one now so maybe that will help to mitigate the damage.
