Re: [MBZ] IowaQ quotes

2007-12-08 Thread Curt Raymond

My '83 240D with snowtires was one of the best go-anywhere vehicles I've ever
had.
2 winters ago it snowed about 18 while I was at work. When I came out to go
home the plow guy said he'd get a chain and pull me out. I just hopped in,
fired 'er up and backed right out of the parking spot like it was nothing at
all. Didn't even clear the windows first.

One other time we were at a hippy kind of arts festival following a big Ford
pickup into the parking area which was just a field. There was a big puddle you
had to drive through. Well the Ford guy thought he'd be cool so he got in the
middle of the puddle and gunned it. His truck sank to the frame.
I putted right around him in the 240D, asked if he wanted help and let him
climb over and ride on the trunk to get out of the water. My wife thought it
was the greatest thing ever.

My 240D has the perfect go-in-the-snow (and ice) system -- take the
 foot off
of the brake and idle down the road until you achieve forward progress.

Not in the traditional sense no.
One word, guns. I really like guns, oh and hunting. And trucks, and snowmobiles
and tractors and you get the idea.
Oh I like being clean too.

The hippy festival is actually the North Quabbin Garlic and Arts Festival
which is a riot and does attact a large number of serious hippies, VW busses
and all.
It also attracts alot of folks with diesel cars, Benzes too. Theres one guy
with a beautiful S123 300TD with a veggie conversion. He and I chat every year.
He's done some ungodly number of miles since the conversion...
My wife's best friend sells body oils and bath salts and such and we go to help
her at the show.

I'm off to look at the '71 Saab, the guy sounds like a decent sort, we'll see.

No, I didn't want to loose the people behind me.

Note, the people behind us were: Regina, driving a w140 420SEL and
 Kaleb in John Robins '91? 300D 2.5. There's no way a 240D at full
throttle could loose either of those drivers in those cars-especially
in the 12 block town of Jefferson, IA! :D

My personal favorite is when Regina figured out what the exclamation

quickly so I didn't think it was worth mentioning [directed at Kaleb]

For those in the dark it is the traction control light telling you that

Ya, I've that on the 93 and 92 wagon. Field tested both the other day,
er much easier in the 500 to abuse that lamp when wet out.

Best favourite here is when my wife came home after driving 30 miles
(50Km) and said oh ya
the coolant lamp was on the whole way. (sigh). Oh no oops I mean the
low windshield washer fluid lamp.

Still wondering if she would keep driving with the low coolant lamp on
tho.
