Not really. I can totally understand their motivation. With places like
CoPart there’s really no reason for them to allow the resale of a car they’ve
totaled and they don’t have to worry about getting rid of it.

That is rediculous.

My insurer (Allstate) won’t allow buybacks of totaled cars anymore. The only
way you can get the car back is to buy it for parts. If they total it they’ll
never insure it.
I’m wondering if other companies are doing the same?

The adjuster came out and took a look at Allen. He found more damage than
just the bumper. Seems she came deep under the car and bent some of the
sheet metal under the plate. Shifted the gaps for the trunk as well. His
I suggest you take it to a body shop with a lift so you can do a visual
inspection along with the body shop guy. Then not have to bend or crawl to
see the damage.
Likely, that would give you enough information to determine how critical
the damage is and go forward accordingly.

First of all, comprehensive doesn't come into play here. This is strictly a
collision claim. If USAA was involved at all they would make you whole, then
subrogate the claim with Amica.
The adjuster should be a certified estimator, so whatever they come up with
should be right, but I agree in
If it don't show and it still tracks right down the road, a few minutes
with the BFH
underneath ought to be all you need to be 'good enough' on the sheet metal.

The dames insco is footing the bill direct. I do not have comprehensive on the
car, so USAA will not bother trying to make me whole. Amica has the burden for
the car. USAA is going to deal with my medical needs.

So if you got an estimate why didn’t the adjuster just cut you a check?
That’s what my insurance company does. Then you take the car to any of their
approved repair facilities, or one of your choice, or just pocket the $$ and do
the work yourself or live with the damage. If the bill is more
I'd think that the greatest risk is whether the trunk seals or not - will
it keep the rain out and the contents dry? Do you care if it does or not?
Otherwise, it sounds like cosmetic damage which is optional from a
functionality standpoint to repair. Your choice . . .

And this posting is an example of the decline in mentation. I forgot I had
mentioned the adjuster.

The adjuster came out and took a look at Allen. He found more damage than just
the bumper. Seems she came deep under the car and bent some of the sheet metal
under the plate. Shifted the gaps for the trunk as well. His estimate was
around $1380. If the body shop finds more damage they will
