To check for a plugged cat, attach a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold
vacuum port, then run the RPMs up with the car in park. If the vacuum drops
to almost 0, the converter's plugged. Next thing to look for would be an
overly rich mixture. Unburned fuel in the exhaust stream
